NGK IRIDIUM Plug
« on: September 13, 2010, 08:21:54 PM »
Yeah today was spark plug change time :) .I work for probably the United Kingdoms biggest motorcycle and car part distribution company so as you might guess i get a great big whopping discount on anything i buy,so i got me a CR7HIX iridium plug for my little beastie £5.00.I can say the scoot started and idled perfect before but i needed to have that plug as i always use them in my bikes (2 stroke before the a50 came along) i was expecting a real low market chinese plug to pop out but lone behold a mint champion PRZ9HC checked this plug and all seems well as it should be.I replaced the little black and gold plug with the iridium and poped the champion under my seat as a spare. Now the engine seems completely different,easier/quicker starting even smoother tick over and a lil more responsive so if your thinking about investing your hard earned cash on an uprated plug for your 4 stroke in my opinion i dont think you can go wrong with the ngk iridium range and the word IRIDIUM just rolls off the tongue ::) lol.tc omfgdotcodotuk ps more mods to come very shortly keep yall posted as usual ;)

Glad to see everyone jumping on the iridium bandwagon.

I felt like an iridiot being the only one!

Oooh, what is this "Iridium"? Is this like a step up from Platinum or something? Or a brand name? Must learn the meaning of this...

Yes, iridium is supposed to be superior to platinum because it has a much higher melting point (2450 degrees Celsius) and is 8 times stronger.

The main benefit of the iridium plug is the long life and more efficient spark.  Something to do with the much smaller center electrode having less 'spark jump'.

Of course, this is just what I've read.

Some claim there will be a performance boost for the engine (and even fuel economy), but I've found that the only real difference seems to be ease of starting.

In addition to NGK, Denso makes iridium plugs - the IUF22 is the one for the agility 50.

Ease of starting would be good enough reason to buy one.
ZX50, 47mm cyl. kit, TZR50 CDI. Michelin Pilot Sport tyres,
Next performance mod; pumping the tyres up.

It was for me!

Especially with the cold weather approaching.

I paid $8.49 for the Denso, so it wasn't a major investment.

Did you notice any difference in starting between the plugs.

That's the one thing that seems to have really changed for me.

Sounds about right.

But as I've said before, the cold start benefit is enough for me to give the iridium plug a thumbs up.

And I guess you have the longevity factor as well.
