My 2 year warranty is up next month so...
« on: February 16, 2011, 05:08:55 AM »
Just wondering if there is a book I can buy for my A50 or a general book for repairs, tune ups and such.  At the going rate of $79/hour for just an oil change - I think I will be DIY'ing from here on out on the small stuff.

I can build you a house from the ground up, but I have no mechanic skills at all.

I am coming up on my 10,000 K checkup and I am going to go ahead and pay for on last maintenance overall inspection and all that needs to be done, but unless I can find a DIY book I have issues that I hope I don't have to pay $79 an hour for and those are:

1.  I haven't had a front brake since 2 weeks after my last scheduled tune up.  2 weeks after I took it in, my front brake started locking and I called them (even though they adjusted and checked the brakes) claimed it wasn't them and it just happens and I can see that, so I tried to fix it myself, then cold weather creep'd in and I have been without my front for 4 months now because I completely took the front brakes off and resting on the floor board securely (yes, I know how dangerous that is - believe me) :)  So I imagine I will be replacing them (hopefully just the pads and not the caliper).

2.  I know I will need to replace my exhaust soon, it is starting to rust really bad.

3.  Replacing Gear Oil and Regular Oil.

4.  The main one I dread is the Carb cleaning.  I have watched videos on it, but no actual experience and I have read that the slightest thing can cause problems.

5.  The drive belt - Rollers and so forth

Those are my main concerns, and by not paying for a mechanic, I imagine I can replace that initial charge by buying the tools I need.

Also, buying parts myself will be cheaper :0.

Weather is getting ready to break and I need to start boning up on my scooter repair schedule.

BTW, this has been one of the best investments I have ever made.  Besides around 3 weeks of bad weather a year, I am always thankful for this piece of machinery.  This makes my second winter on it and it has done fantastically.

Thanks
B

Ever since I started running 1 oz per gal of seafoam in my gas I haven't had any carburator trouble on my 2 scoots or lawn mower , going on 2 years now . Also you might be able to find an independent scooter mechanic cheaper than your dealer . Good luck .

Well, got the CD in .pdf format and took it to Kinkos and got it printed up and spined for about $23.  It is a very detailed manual and a bit intimidating. It comes with pictures, schematics and allot of detail.  It is about 183 pages.

If anyone wants to take a look at it, I will provide a copy if you PM me.  I uploaded to my server and is ready for whom ever.

I think I am going to take it in for one last overhaul at $79 an hour to make sure all is good on it, and will service it from here on out myself.  This service includes doing a carb rebuild and since I don't think that should wait, I will let the them do it, until I get comfortable with doing things myself.

Thanks
