Disc lock for Like 200i
« on: October 22, 2012, 11:43:34 PM »
Hey!
Since I live in a city and will have to park on the street at times I wanted to get some extra protection for my future scooter. Anyone have experience with disc locks? I found this:

Would that work on a Like and would it be decent protection?

Don't know about the one you have listed. I use an Aprilia http://www.maxmoto.co.uk/images/AP8720117-350-1-800.jpg that I got from my dealer. It was around $35. A company called Xena makes some with built in alarms. I have heard the better locks are the cable or heavy duty chain locks.

Thanks!
I know lot of people here get their bicycles stolen when they use cable locks(easy to cut) so maybe a chain? Not much to lock it too though. Can you run it through the wheels?

I use a big cable lock. A scoot cover is also a theft deterrent. My only experience with a disc lock is that when you forget to unlock and remove it.... wham!!!

However, no security gadget is an assurance against theft.

Been thinking about getting a xena disk lock myself. When the bike is here it lives in the garage and I feel fortunate to have the storage and peace of mind. But if my girlfriend or I go somewhere and need to lock it up for hours on end, the disk lock seems a good choice. As far as I can tell, we'll never need to leave it locked up overnight outside anywhere.
Newbie just make sure you get good insurance with the lowest deductible possible. No sense in having a $500 deductible for a $2700 scooter.

For me it's just insurance.  If it gets stolen I'll have a reason to get my People 300i.

I have a Xena XZZ6L and it fits my GT300i. I don't know if the discs are the same for the Like. If you take some measurements of your disc Xena's website shows the dimensions of the lock.

If you want the extra security of locking your scoot to something they have an adapter to add a cable to the lock.

My Xena lock is very heavy duty and well made. I chose the Xena after searching reviews for Disc Lock Alarms and I am very happy with it. I do not have the cable adapter because I don't have anything to lock it to where I park at work.

forgot to mention that I found a good amount of xenas on ebay for far below retail. I would check there or amazon if you're gonna go with that one.

I use this alarm disc lock from ebay uk. Makes a lot of noise if anyone trys to move your scoot. Comes with a pouch, 2 sets of batteries and a reminder that attaches to the left brake lever. check out the link.

I use a Xena 6mm on my Like. It's long enough to fit on the inner most holes on the disk brake. I've used it daily since May and the battery is just now starting to give out. Still loud. Just not as loud.
