Title: Info Requested 250 S
Post by: TLRam1 on October 01, 2013, 04:56:19 AM
Just purchased a 2010 with 358 miles on it, black and looks new.

A few questions.

How many watts does the Alternator put out?

What is the Cig Socket capacity, what size fuse?

Many of you use synthetic oil or regular petroleum oil?

Are you guys using regular transmission gear oil?

In reality how often do the valves need adjusting or what is your experience?

I did download the owners manual and service manual.

Recommendations for a taller shield would be appreciated.

Thanks, this shield looks like it continues the same degree of angle, does the shield get close to your face, has anyone used this shield that can offer some feedback?

I have the same engine in a different bike. The valves don't really go out of adjustment, but checking them at the proper intervals is a fairly easy job. I like synthetic 5W40 oil in the winter, but a good conventional oil works just fine. Depending where you live, the recommended 15W40 might be a little thick when cold starting. 10W40 might be a better fit.

Gear oil is easy to find at auto parts stores. I use 80W90. The specified SAE90 might be hard to find, and possibly not worth the effort.

Good information, thanks.

We get some cold temps in this area but nothing like up north for extended periods of time.

I thought our location would show up on the forum, I see it doesn't so I added mine in my signature.

I spoke with a guy who really likes that shield.  It's actually made for the PS200 and has no holes for the tabs on the PS250.  You will need to drill holes where the tabs go or you can remove the tabs from the PS250.  Easier to drill holes so you can go back to the original shield if you wish.  It is the same windshield, just higher and a little wider.

Unless you want a really BIG windshield, it's probably the best, easiest swap out there.  I'm going to order one for this winter.

Okay, thanks for the feedback Johnson.

I ran across another who I think put a Givi 438A on but I think he had to cut part of the shield.

Here is the thread for the other windshield, I had the numbers incorrect before, the numbers are also listed in various configurations on this thread also so I don't know which is correct.

My bigger windshield should be in later this week.  I'll give an update on attaching it.   I looked for the Givi 438A and I don't think they're making it any more.  It's not on their site anyways.  PS250's were only made for 3 years so there aren't a lot of parts out there for them.

Someone called Givi for me and they mentioned a shield they thought might fit, I don't know what shield that was though.

But having a review will be great on the shield once you have it!

Did GIVI give you a number or anything to look for?

Okay I went over this with the girl who emailed or called Givi.

The 438A (currently discontinued) is for the People 250 S, the mount kit  is A438A, in our paperwork we show Givi has 12 of the screens left (assuming Givi's inventory is accurate) but no mounting hardware. I asked her to inquire if Givi has any mounting hardware left in Italy.

Givi has no more of the mounts for their shield in the USA or overseas.

Mr. Johnson,

1. Did you get your taller screen in and installed, can you give a review on it? How do you like it, how well does it block the wind from your face and is it in the way of your face?

2. Does your front brake lever pull in quite a bit more than your left rear brake lever?

Does the front brake lever have good resistance, or does it feel too soft and spongy and travels much closer to the handlebar? Might be worthwhile to bleed the front brake.

Five minute operation with the proper crescent wrench, a small length of hose over the bleed nipple and a jar for brake fluid. Squeeze lever hard and quickly open and close the nipple. Some fluid and bubbles will come out into hose. After nipple closed, pump the lever. Squeeze and open/close the nipple. Repeat until the brake lever is firm when you grab it after pumping. There should be no more air bubbles coming out the nipple too.

It has a solid feel to it but a bleed still would be in order just to rule that out. Maybe the twin disk up front has something to do with that.

The odd thing is no one on here seems to own a PS250 for reference.  :o

Sorry to be so long replying.  I've been going back and forth with Columbia Scooters on the windscreen.  I have it.  It has no curve built in, unlike the original windscreen.  The holes are not lined up very well at all.  The center hole in particular is too far from the bottom of the screen.  Spoken with them 3 times.  They say to just force it into place.  But I've been hesitant to do that.  Bum right shoulder doesn't help.   Rotator cuff surgery this summer.  They also said I may need to resize the holes to make them work.  I may end up just returning it.  They've been very reluctant to accept a return and I haven't pushed them on it yet.  Not a plug and play experience.

About the screen.  It's not as thick as the original screen.  Don't know if that along with the extra height will cause it to flutter in the wind.  Being taller it is difficult to bend into place.  It's going to be a two man job to install.  It doesn't seem like it will interfere with any existing hardware on the scoot, it's just a pita to install.

My brake levers pull pretty evenly.  I two-finger them both the same.

Thanks for the replies Mr Johnson,

If you decide to keep the screen soaking in Hot water would help mold the screen around. I have used this method on small plastic items in boiling water. I am still trying to locate fit kits for the Givi screen, so far unsuccessful attempts on ordering.

If installed does the screen seem like it would be too much up in your face?

I will probably bleed the brake system and see if that helps.

I bought and installed the following wind shield. It completely block wind and I really like it. It's designed for European model that don't have the turn signal but it'll work for the US model as well. The turn signal will touch the wind shield. I see you are in Allen. I'm in Plano. Let me know if you want to check out the installed wind shield.

Yes I would be interested in seeing the shield. Where about in Plano are you? I am in the vicinity of 75 and Bethany.

I have found the hardware for the Givi shield but I can't order it from one as my address will not take on their site and the other site charges too much freight. I need to see if someone on here can order and forward me the hardware. I happen to have access to the  one Mr Johnson ordered and ordered one of those myself for what I hope for a lot less money so if I do not like it I am not out much.

Michael, it was good to meet up with you Sunday, thanks for taking the time and showing me your shield, large with good coverage and you had a wealth of knowledge that was beneficial to me.

Don't forget to air your front tire, the steering will be much lighter, less effort.

Here is the thread on a couple of items we discussed.

Various Top case  samples, I did go with the Shad as I like the locking mechanism better. This link does not start at the top, you have to scroll up.

Thanks. I did inflat my tires. It makes a lot of difference. I am also going to change my front brake pad after comparing to yours.

I left one thing out, the most impressive, Michael is realistic on gas mileage right off the bat! No sugar coating, boasting or funny numbers here.
