OK just picked up another Super 9 LC. It has ben sitting 2 years but fired right up with a new battery and fresh gas. I'm looking to do a full tune-up on it. I'm interested in variator, weights, belt, splug and tires.
I have Shinko SR006 Radials on order. One thing I have noticed is the lack of a rev limiter. The scoot will race to 75 or 80 kph but redline is 70 kph. Down a big hill with out realizing I had the revs past 10,000 and the speedo well past 80. I do have 2 problems. Rear brake is hard On or Off no feathering but works and it is a little hard to start after sitting for a few days. Cranks for 10 secs to bild up.

OK tried bleeding the rear brake caliper but it didn't help with the sticky lever feel. Then I decided to remove the rear caliper and look for signs of rust on the piston. Didn't see any. Now the fun part. When I try to put the caliper back on it does not seem to line up correctly. With the 2 bolts snugged up tight the caliper is pinching the disk and the rear wheel is stuck tight. WTF this is pissing me off. I'm not sure what is wrong now. After trying many things including spacers to properly line up the caliper and not pinch but the lever goes to the bar with the extra space.
Now I wonder if the last owner tried to fix this and screwed it up.
-
No... You did. it sounds like the caliper/piston(s) are binding
Take it off completely. Stuff a rag between the piston(s), and the housing, and use compressed air to "blow the piston(s) out. That will show what is happening inside.
Clean it all up or replace whatever is bad, and reinstall the caliper. Use the air again to squeeze the pads tight, and re connect the fluid line. Open the bleeder, and fill the reservoir, Squeeze the lever, and look for air bubbles coming from the tiny holes inside the Res. and keep refilling till fluid comes out the bleeder. When it starts to come out close the bleeder, and keep squeezing until it starts to "firm up" Once firm squeeze, and hold. Open the bleeder and expel any bubbles. Tighten the bleeder and release the lever. Repeat that till it works right.

Hi GVH . Nice Scoot. What cdi do you have ?
-
Thanks. Looks good from far but loads of scratches up close. Not sure what cdi but no rev limit on it. No time to deal with the rear brake until next week. This is a pic of my other Super. I had decided to sell the red one as I had not used it for a year. I delivered the red one to the new owners requested shop and found this blue for sale a few blocks away.

OK mister caliper is much more capable now. The 2 pins didn't want to slide. Disassembled the caliper and the piston worked fine so just greased the sliders and all seems good. Took for ever top bleed to a nice stiff feel. Still waiting on tires.
-
Sounds like you need a new belt, shouldn't do 10000rpm at 80kph. Also if it sat for two years do yourself a huge favor and take the carb apart clean all passageways will start up first crank!
-
OK new tires are in. Decided to take the rims off myself to save money. 2 Rachet straps from a chain on a metal I beam. Floor jack to help stabilize it. Glad I have air tools at work. Picking up wheels in a few hours.

Kymco Hover 9

OK just over 500 K on the Shinko tires SR006. So far love them. Any tires would be better than the stock 2007 ones. But even in a decent rain they stuck great. Time to start on the carb clean up to help the starting issue. Check the By Starter to.

Crap! I just saw you got the MK II clutch! Yeah Boy!
I put my Malossi in the QMB cause I couldn't tune it for the ZX. A FEW runs w/ the Stage6, and it made the bike drivable.
They even sent me two extra sets of shoes because I linked the build tread, and they KNEW I was gonna need them.
The very first attempt at 80, and the shoes were GONE. Right down to the metal in slightly less than 1 mile.
Now that it's street geared the shoes last. I have less than 30 street miles on them but they look as good as new.
-
Yeah, I loved the Dr Pulley clutch, but it would not allow the oem A50 pulley halves to fully open without trimming the inner edge of the bell..... The mk2 is th' bomb!!
-
I asked you about that a year ago... Those HIT clutches suck. Its a fad.
-
Yes you did, and once dialed in, I don't think they can be beat.... :-*
-
why do want to wait for some gimmick to "lock up" when a Stage6 locks up exactly when you want it to.
It's like buying a Sunday, and they bring the cherry after you're done.
Ohhhh Slinger.....
-
I snapped a crank before because of the HIT clutch. Big bike 180cc gy6 the bike locked up really hard, bit the crank seriously exploded out of the case and destroyed a new kit lol. Dr pulley clutch and vario are on Craigslist right now.

..no,no..I meant the MKII can't be beat...in my opinion...
-
There you go... If they made tougher pads it would be perfect. I mentioned I wore the pads off in a one mile run.
It was the ultra low gearing that did it (6:1) but if they were just a bit tougher...
The Stage6 MK II I mean.
I can see the Dr. Pulley causing all sorts of drive line shock issues. A snapped crank is about as extreme as it gets.
-
It's an ok clutch but I found its either really extreme engagement or slips a LOT it's very hard to get the Dr. Pulley in the sweet spot.
-
Makes perfect sense. I imagine they would be brutal for City driving. Even highway driving when you are not under a real load could be an issue. I never tried them because of those thoughts.
Plus the gremlins telling me not to do it. Different issue completely.
-
I've got gracie, my 05 stock s9 MKII dialed in at @7200 off the line...with the malossi vari with it's 9gram rollers with the gates belt, she holds @ 7500 up to @ 50-55 ind..then edges on up to @ 7800 over 60...
-
I really liked the DrP at first, but adjusting it is a bitch!...weights and springs and more springs and positions and damn...too much involved... :o
