My 2012 DT300i starts fine when its cold, but when I park it at work or anywheres that it will be sitting out in the sun it for a few hours it takes quite a feat to get it started.
I`ve tried the key off/throttle wide open/engine start on/ key on wait 8 seconds throttle off key off and after 4-5 tries I can finally get it started only after playing the throttle like a fiddle.
I`ve put in a new air filter but dont we have a fuel filter on these things we can change out too?

Sounds strange. Might be a fuel issue. I would start by replacing the spark plug. Check for air leaks in the fuel hoses.
This happened to me with my GTI recently. found out to be a weak battery. Swapped the battery and all was cool.
Does the fuel pump sound weak when you turn on the key?? Might be the fuel line isn't staying primed: zero pressure when bike is sitting.

Thanks I`ll check those things out, and I`ll keep an eye on my fuel level when I fill up.
Its just really strange that it only happens when its been sitting in the hot sun, but never does it cold nor after its been warmed up from riding.

Mine does that too but if it stalls after firing her up. It will take a few subsequent cranks to get her to fire back up.

Orange, the fuel filter is on the intake of the fuel pump and ya gotta remove the pump to get to it. My DT300i gets a little grumpy on start when it is hot outside and has been stopped for a short time. That is when I have to play the throttle like a fiddle but this is once in a while. I would recommend reset/initialize to see if it makes a difference.

The DT is an EFi bike. Fiddling with the throttle upon cranking shouldn't have any effect but it does.

Make sure you let the fuel pump prime for 5-10 seconds when you first turn your key on.

Ok so for these past few weeks I`ve been careful with my fuel levels and still have the starting issue. It does always start after doing a couple resets and playing the throttle.
My main concern was whether this was a sign of things to come and that something was about to break down on the bike and that sometime sooner or later my luck would run out.
My next plan is to pull the plug and have a look. I changed it last summer and have put a few thousand miles on it but maybe these Kymcos are plug eaters.
In the meantime, I`ve found that the computer reset is about useless really, I can do it 4-5 times exactly as described in the service manual and it will eventually start but starts hard, the better thing to do at least in my case is to hold the start switch and let it roll over a number of times then play the throttle a little bit and it fires right up.
I`m also going to order a new battery as agilebda mentioned.
One thing I`ve noticed right from the beginning is that this Kymco tends to roll over a few times before starting even on its best day. My SYM HD200, which has a carbureted engine would start within a half a second of hitting the start switch. I think maybe these stock batteries are a bit weak and sitting in the heat drains them just enough to make starting harder.

No I havent pulled the hazard control unit, where is it at and whats it for? Cant find it in the service manual.....
Pulled the spark plug and it looks alright but I`m replacing it anyways.

Under seat bucket, RH side of the bike by the RH seat latch, redish brown box with 11 wires and two connectors coming out of it.

Ok, should I pull it out and discontinue its use, or replace it with a new one?

Just pull it out and see if it solves your warm starting issue

That hazard control unit really puzzled me. I checked the DT300i wiring diagram yesterday and there it was! The DT has 4-way flasher lights which are the turn signal lights all flashing at the same time. The "hazard control unit" is in between the turn signals and the "hazard switch" on the right handle bar. Now, what it would have to do with warm starting problems, I have not a clue. But, if it solves the warm start issue, so what? We will figure out that later.

I`m thinking I dont have one of these then. I dont see any small box under the seat bucket as you describe, nor do I have any hazard switch on my handlebars....?

It was advertised as a 2012 but the vin number makes it a 2011.

That's so weird, you don't have a yellow hazards switch on the tour handlebar? Our bike on the floor it's 2012 and has hazard.

a few months ago some one said if ou shut down with the kill switch it buggers up the computer, and it will hard start,. for a while,. just a thought,

Nope theres no yellow switch on my scoot :-\ hey dee dee should I shut off with the key then?

ya I shut down all the time key only, never had starting problems, for 43,000 km.
