I asked this question in the super 8 section but I'm asking again hoping it gets more views in this one.
I'm bringing in my kymco 2012 super 8 50 cc 2t, to have a 70cc big bore cylinder installed and a performance variator. The shop where Im having these installed is not the place where I purchased my scoot, its just a random motorcycle repair shop. When I was there I looked around and didn't see any other scoots, only motorcycles.
I'm a little concerned that the mechanic working on my scoot might be performing this job for the first time.
To make things easier I was wondering if it would help if I dug up whatever info I could find on these installs on the internet, print it out and
bring it to him.
Or is the work to be done so straight forward that my concerns might be misplaced? what do you guys think?
-
If they can't put on a 70cc kit in a scooter, they shouldn't be allowed to work on a motorcycle. 70cc kit install is a breeze in that bike. Make sure you mention champhering the ports, this it's important for longevity. Also are they going to jet your carb too?
-
Did they say they will do all the other stuff needed for a successful BBK installation. Anyone can tighten the head bolts and install the kit. Doing it with all the other needed mods is important what I read not what Im experienced on.
-
bettinabdlosing, i will mention chambering the ports, i bought a #85 main jet and will be giving it to them to install.
Chris0381, thats what I mean, should i look up the steps and bring them a print out?
-
Yea
Can anyone chime in on what other mods or component changes desirable for doing a BBK on a Super 50 CC 8 2T?
-
I can definitely speak for the LIKE BBK install. SHould be very similar for a super 8. Upgrade carb to around 19mm, upgrade intake, upgrade exhaust, chamfer cylinder ports. I personally zip tied 100% open my oil pump.
-
thanks for the info guys.
But I'm keeping the stock carb, stock intake, stock exhaust. I will def mention the cylinder ports.
Anything else?
-
Interesting concept...does not compute... lol
Well if thats what your doing then just chamfer the ports and get more oil in there either through premix (involves jetting adj) or opening up the oil pump (either set it to provide more oil than usual at a certain throttle setting or 100% open all the time).
-
Without an exhaust out carb you shouldn't tie it open, be fouling plugs like a biotch. Just set it as high as it goes on the adjuster cable. Although you should ruin a 1% premix on your first tank for break in. Have you derestrcted you're exhaust?
-
thanks for the info bettingandlosing, no i haven't derestricted the exhaust. All I've done so far is changed the smooth boss and the 82 main jet.

Kimura
Take a minute or 2 to fill out you scooter info in you signature if you can.
I just did that and it'll help other know what we have for mods etc.
-
If the cycle shop has a welder pay they them to restrict your exhaust. I did a write up on it search exhaust derestrction and show them, without it your kit will hardly make any difference. Also make sure you use a cooler plug, should say what plug to use in the instructions the kit came with. Usually a NGK BR9HSA, but read the instructions.

For some one just doing this mod with a smooth boss, would they want a jet bigger that the #82 and if so, what jet size would you recommend trying first.
-
Not if you keep the intake stock. But you may have to go higher than 85 with a 70 kit.

Would pulling out the tube in the airbox be considered a nonstock intake? I should have mentioned that also. Just trying to figure what jet I should be running. Would a #82 jet be to lean for the your posted exhaust mod and removal of that tube in the airbox.
But by nonstock intake, I think you are referring totally bigger carb all together or open air air filter
-
IMO 82 jet with exhaust mod and collett out is too lean. I did make a post about that a long time ago. I believe I was in the 100 - 102 range on the stock carb jets and was still running lean with nasty plug chops.
But Jets depend on location/altitude so for all I know you could be good. Check out plug chops and maybe even a cylinder head temp guage.
FYI intake is the metal manifold between the reeds and the carb.
-
Yes, that will be too lean. And I meant any intake mods, airbox or actual intake manifold.
-
Ok great, I'll keep the #86 in there.
-
brought the scoot in, it should be ready on Saturday.
I bought 54 LED underglow lights to put under my scoot but he didn't want to install them because he said he didn't want to deal with any possible electrical problems, which I understand. Ill have someone else put them on at a later time.
Ive got my fingers crossed, lets see what happens. :o
-
Can you can wire them directly to the battery with an inline fuse and switch so as not to touch any other wiring ?
-
I don't know bro, I suck at all things with tools involved and wouldn't dare try anything.
This is what I have.
