Had about 5000 miles on it headed out to Tn, from texas. The dealer said it had shattered the piston. Had been ridding it 70 to 75 for about 7 hrs only stopping for gas and short beraks. Got my full purchase price back toward a Suzuki C-50 new. The piston had also cracked the block. DAM.

Sorry to hear about your scooter but at least you are on 2 wheels again.
The C50 is probably one of the best bargains out there and 100% reliable, almost maintenance free and fun to ride.
My cousin and I both had the earlier model of the C50, called the Volusia 800 and for a mid-size, entry level cruiser they couldn't be beat.
Cracking a piston is very rare on any 4 stroke bike unless your engine dropped and intake or exhaust valve as in losing a valve stem keeper or if a cam chain broke and allowed the immovable valves to hit the crown of the moving piston, causing not only piston damage but rod and crankshaft also and apparently causing collateral damage to the engine block and more.
Have fun on the new Suzuki!!

Did you check the condition of the oil before the trip? That's a LONG trek if the bike head degraded oil or low oil.

That's a bummer hgw 75. I think you will be pleased with the c 50. Besides my 2010 xciting 500 I have a 2007 c50 dressed up with shield, bags, backrest for touring. It is a good bike and actually gets better mpg than my kymco. Has been good to me in the 2 plus years of ownership One of the great motorcycle forums is Volusiariders.com with a wealth of info and good members. Best of luck on your purchase

Had fresh oil & filter, and fresh gear oil. Just started making a loud tapping noise, by time I had a chance to pullover it quite and had oil coming out the right front part of the block. Engine had locked up.
I had a marder years ago, now the c-50. Nice ride.

Wow strange, that is very unusual for a Taiwan Kymco to catastrophically fail like that!!! Good thing you were able to get a refund, happy riding!!

They called me and did say it dropped a valve. Did not say witch one. The c-50 is averaging 45 mpg,not bad, the two things I miss is the auto trans, and the storage under the seat.

Yes you did. You think I was running it too fast. 75 mph was close to the red line, all freeway. Sometimes faster :-[
