I recently bought this 2009 agility used with about 5,000 miles on it.......Too SLLLLOOOWW!! I read on the net about derestriction and decided to start with just the cdi, now I dont know if there are other things I need to do because I cut the cdi or will my engine be OK with only the cdi box cut. I do know that it was extremely easy and I now I have gotten up to 45 mph with ease!! So I will post a pic of this cut and hope that others have input specifically for the 2009 agility 50!!
-
No worries on the engine> these are NOT saftey, or protection modifications. The restrictions are there solely to comply w/ local speed limitations for the 50cc licenses laws. The difference you found in the cdi de-restrict, is the same as the diff. in the cvt de-restrict (5-7 mph). Good luck w/ the scoot!
-
I was hoping someone would say that, I feel like the scooter WAS meant to go this fast, so smooth and sooo quiet!!
-
did you do this cut on r16 agility?
-
I am not sure it is a 2009 kymco 4-stroke 50cc agility, does that tell ya anything?

Can you post the pic(s) of what you did to the CDI box? I also have an '09 Agility 50 that probably needs this done. Thanks!
Happy scootin'! ;D

"Wordslinger",
I know I am looking at the CDI unit from your Agility in the photo, but I still don't know what you actually did to modify it. I am assuming you had to cut into it somehow to cut a wire, right? See the photos below of what my CDI unit (from a 2009 Agility 50) looks like:

Now, exactly what am I supposed to do to modify it? Does your unit have the same numbers on it as mine, as I notice the color of your plug is a different color?
Thanks!

..the "wire" is inside the casing of the cdi...cut the casing, and you cut the wire...
..use a hacksaw, or a file, and just whack away until it kinda looks like the pic.. :)
..ppl say "DON'T CUT TOO DEEP"..but as you see in the pic below, there's a good margin for error..
..the other pic actually isn't my cdi...mine looks like this...lol..
..I stopped posting this pic when showing examples...
..obvious reasoning..kinda extreme...

..franx, scootermaven's is an r12...

I was hoping someone would say that, I feel like the scooter WAS meant to go this fast, so smooth and sooo quiet!!
..you can "fix" that quiet problem with a high-flow air filter..lol..
;D

...i's a very small wire, and you can see it..in real life...
..usually, the blade or file will drag plastic over the copper...makes it kinda hard to see..
-
...DON'T DO IT LIKE MINE!!!
..my dealer did that..lol.
-
..the wire is maybe 1/8" deep in the casing...right in the "top" edge...

Dude...before I start hacking-away on the CDI unit with a hack saw (inside a miter box), I want to see yours in-person. I want to somehow see the wire that was sliced. Can we get together and do that, soon? Once I get done I'll post some good pics of the mod. Once I see exactly where the wire is located and maybe get some measurements, I may just use a Dremel tool to do this.
Thanks!

..hey man, that's cool...imma going to be out your way tomorrow, around noon..
..hit me an email with ur cell phone #..u gots text?...

...oh!..yeah!!...the dremel would be tops!!!

go to scootertherapy.com and check out their pic of cdi derestriction, you are going for a wire that is basically covered in epoxy to protect the circuit, it is actually a greean wire and is right next to back edge about 1/4 inch in, you may not see the wire, but I went 1 swipe at a time with the hacksaw and actually saw the wire and the green plastic around the wire, be sure to have good light while you are doing this!! Be sure to check out scooter therapy.com for cdi derestriction, very good site. Let us know how it goes!!

SeanOaloha,
Went to scootertherapy.com, but saw nothing about cdi derestriction. Can you post a link to this information at Scooter Therapy.
Thanks!

Here is the link for cdi mod.....dont worrry, I was worried and it was very easy......follow instructions and pic exactly and dont over cut!! once you do it you will love it man!! ALOHA www.scootertherapy.com/bosspage.html (http://www.scootertherapy.com/bosspage.html)

Sorry dude, wrong restriction.....http://www.scootertherapy.com/cdiboxcutpage.html (http://www.scootertherapy.com/cdiboxcutpage.html)
-
After you make the cut a little epoxy will seal it all back up. A little water in there, and you may not realize what the problem is.
-
I didnt have epoxy, so I used 2 pieces of electrical tape, one on either side of the inside of the cut then a piece all the way around the cdi on the end, epoxy is the much better way to go but if you have no $$$ and no epoxy you can go the cheap route and still be pretty waterproof
-
Every little bit helps. I can see water getting into the slice, and not being able to figure why the scoot is cutting up, and down in rpm,s. Thinking about your post re; Hawian rain. Aloha...

...I saw a 2009 cdi yesterday, that scootermaven has... he shaved off the whole end of it's cdi, and never did find a wire to cut...
..I think the part # on the cdi was D406...had a KYMCO logo on it...

Here's the photo of my trimmed CDI unit from a 2009 KYMCO Agility 50. To this point, neither myself or "wordslinger" has seen any such green rev limiter wire to be cut. Perhaps KYMCO has changed the location of this wire on the '09 CDI's for some reason. Any ideas on this anyone? You can see photos of the unit before I started trimming on it further up in this topic. I would love to see a photo of someone's stock '09 CDI. It could be that someone has already replaced my stock CDI unit with a unrestricted CDI unit, but I am not sure, as I am the third owner of the relatively low-mileage scooter.

Wow does that thing still work??

Wow does that thing still work??
Sure, why wouldn't it? Nothing of any importance/significance was cut and it was very carefully trimmed. If only I could have found that green wire.
-
Wow, nice trim job anyways! As for the problem, I don't have any bright ideas. You may want to try and contact Kymco to verify a cdi restriction for '09.
-
I only have 2 thoughts on this. 1; If the cdi is already programed for NO restriction the engine will rev over 8'000 rpm's w/ NO hesitation. I tried searching the web for you w/ no results for an '09. 2; you can contact Suitai to get more info on the cdi you have, or if needed order a de-restricted FACTORY cdi. Here's the link www.motorcycle-components.com/ (http://www.motorcycle-components.com/). I would certainly re-seal the one you have w/ epoxy to be on the safe side.
-
..I did a search on KYMCO cdis...appears that this one is one of the unrestricted models...
..as for scootermavens original concern, I think we concluded that all his 09 needs is some lighter rollers...
..sweet little ride..
..I remember when my old girl was new..........................

...MASS IRIDIUM...
-
just cut mine! yay for higher rev's!
-
will this work on a people 50 4t?
-
Hi there guys,
I have a '10 Kymco agility 50, its restricted but is just too slow,
Does anyone know if you have to do the CDI and the Variator Boss thing at the same time, or if you can just do the CDI?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!
