If you had to buy a scooter again would you guys buy the same one or would you buy something else? Would you buy a different brand bike? Or maybe just a different model? Any info here would be much appreciated! I am very much in love with the People GT 300i, but I would love some input on any other bikes I should check out before any decisions are made. Throw out any suggestions on bikes you have either seen or heard of and I will try my best to check them out and maybe even give them a test ride? I will write some reviews on the ones I got to see in person?
Have a great week and ride safe, mscmkr

With the lack of readily available Kymco parts, I'd probably buy a Honda Rukus or Zuma and not a Kymco.
When I call up parts places to get parts, they just cant tell me if the part will work or not. I think the engine number thats none QMB throws them for a loop.
I cant find a simple head gasket in the USA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look into a Vespa, Piaggio, or Zuma.

about two or three years ago. It has been great.
When It wears out, i'll go back for another GT, unless something better comes along.
The GT has exceeded my expectations in every way.
-
People GT300i, for sure!
-
If I was buying in the 300 class it would be another Kymco.
The Forza although it has ABS is a little slow and fat. I don't do BV anymore after bad service locally. Same goes for the Vespas. I Would consider a SYM Citycom. It's a bit slower than the others but is a workhorse.
I can also get the Kymco's at deep discounts. Not going to happen with Honda etal.

I've had my Super 8 over 4 years and 19,000 miles. I have no regrets. I haven't had any problems getting parts and I do my own service. I also have an Aprilia Sport City 250. 4 years and nearly 25,000 miles. No regrets on it either although there are no Aprilia dealers in Alabama so I'm not sure I'd buy another on in the future.
The one thing that does bug me about both of my scooters is the gas cap under the seat and I'd prefer larger gas tanks. I'm still waiting for someone to make the perfect scooter for me.
One thing to consider, whatever you buy is dealer support. It's not that important if you do your own servicing. If I was looking for a 300cc scooter the 2 Kymcos would be at the top of my list. I wouldn't even consider the Forza. I don't care for it or the local Honda dealer. I would consider the Piaggio BV350.
-
I'm totally satisfied with my 2 Kymcos. Both bought new. Price was reasonable. I feel the performance of both scoots is better than the equivalent from Honda, Yamaha, or Piaggio (Vespa.) From what I can see, the build quality is high. These are serious vehicles not 'disposable.' And several dealers in my area if I need them.
2004 Kymco Super 9
2010 Kymco Yager 200gt
Both scoots have been reliable!

Love my movie 150, I have no regrets it's everything a 150 should be. Speaking of the future a 250/300cc would be my choice, who doesn't want more power/speed. Bigger wheels would be in order too. 12in wheels are better than 10in but 14/16in wheels definitely would
improve the ride. Kymco is a brand I will consider for one.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.
I would not hesitate to buy another Downtown 300i.
If I wanted to upgrade , I'd like to go for the Exciting 400i ( but- I guess I'd have to import it ) . :(

Hummmmm, I would like to get the people 300 but at $5000......
:o :o :o :o

I love my scoots , but if were to buy again - I'd be looking at a CB300F for $3999.00
Great 2-wheeled value.

Most of us look hard for the best value with our limited 2-wheel funds.
I find the 300 Kymcos to be priced too high for a 2nd tier scooter.
Is the HONDA NSS300 {Forza} too expensive - probably; but surely a KYMCO 300 should not be selling for the same price a few yards away on the same dealer's floor.
Kymco makes a fine Asian scooter....but they are not Yamahas, Hondas or Suzukis, and the price should reflect that.

I really like my Like, but I wish it had a bit more power. I really like the look of the Vespa GTS 300 or the Piaggio BV 350. One of those will be my next purchase. At some point I'll get back to adding an M/C to my stable.

MSRP does not always reflect real world prices. I could have easily bought a new DT300 or 300GTI for under $4000. Honda's on the other hand tend to sell for well over MSRP after all the fees dealers add on. The local Kymco dealer has a left over DT300 that I could probably get for under $3500. The local Honda dealer is known for additional fees.
On top of that only Honda makes a scooter that directly compares to the Kymco 300s and IMO it comes up short yet is likely to cost at least $1000 to $2000 more in the real world.
The CB300 is a nice bike but is hard to compare directly to a similar sized scooter. It will perform better but looses out on comfort and practicality.

Please tell me how and where I can buy a new 300GTi for under $4000!! If this is the case I would buy one TODAY!!! I was at a dealer in Tucson and he could only find an incentive for $300. Any info on this would be MUCH appreciated!

You need a high volume Kymco first dealer. The local here buys other dealers overstock. They sold well over 40 300cc bikes in the last 12 months.
Just to give you an idea.

Look at my profile you'll see. Ive called around to USA parts suppliers, as soon as I give them my specs they stumble and say we are not sure. Im 4 for 4 and have given up right now. Racing planet has it but its sitting in a warehouse overseas and my last order took a month.

My first scoot was a 2010 People 150. I sold it because I needed just a little more top end for interstate highway commutes. I bought a 2012 GTI300 and never looked back. I would buy another in a heartbeat. Veaspa, Hondas, etc may all be great scooters, but for the prices they sell for they should be. For my money you can't beat my Kymco.

DT300i for me, GTi300 for her. Hands down.

I'm looking at this post with the picture of the Honda CB300F. I'm curious! What is the difference between a motorcycle and a scooter. This Honda looks like a small motorcycle rather than a scooter that you can step through rather than over. Looks like apples and oranges to me.
-
Well a motorcycle is usually chain driven with manual gearing.
-
Stig,
I just took a look at the 2015 CB300F and fell in love at first sight, and at $3,999? Heck the Honda Ruckus runs easily around $2,700! They're definitely trying to appeal to the urban rider with this bike though... sigh... :( maybe in a few years after i've worn out the Like, the misses will give in ;D

I have to take what I can get right now.but I would love to get another agilty.I have been looking at the roughe house by syms.they look cool never had a 2 stroke.I usly stick with what I lnow is good.

Well, if you are looking for a Head Gasket for a 2012 Super 8 50 2T, the part # is, according to my local Kymco dealer, 122251-KEB7-C00.
i would think that any kymco dealer can get that for you within days if they don't have in stock.

Where are these people finding these bikes for so cheap? The dealers here in Phoenix are charging the MSRP price plus. It would save me money to buy from them and have it shipped here.

I don't know where they all come from but the dealer here buys leftover stock from distressed dealers.
They just brought in another bunch of 2013 and 2014 DT and GT 300. Happens almost every month. They sell an amazing amount of 300s.
Now the place in MN does this on a regular basis with there own inventory. They blow the scoots out before they get a chance to sit. Must need room for snowmobiles...

We can put the head gasket to rest. Partsforscooters finally listed this as a Kymco part. 2 weeks ago they didnt know if this was the right gasket.

If I could redo. I wouldn't have bought my first 3 scooters. I can't go back to something smaller than the GTI. To be honest I've warmed up to a few Maxi style scooters. I would have stayed with th GTI or maybe the DT but I'm really starting to develope a crush on the TMax it looks nice. If money were not an issue I'd love to break in a new TMax.

I test rode a Tmax and would have bought it in a heart beat but.....
I would drop it. To tall and too heavy for this crippled body.
If not for my limitations I'd have one sitting with the rest of the fleet. It's fast, agile and to my eye good looking. It the real deal. I know it lacks ABS and for the $$$ that's strange. But it wouldn't stop me.

If my Peoples 200 were in act a 200 I might not have any gripes. The 163cc I do have gets me onto a highway In a pinch with her top speed of 57 mph, but the added 43 cc would be ice and I'd imagine we'd see 65-70 real mph. Being it's not 200 I'd like a 200-300cc I the same size package. No issue with the brand.

Your 163 cc should do well above 57 MPH. My 2010 Kymco Yager GT 200i (174.5cc) does 79 MPH, riding right at the ragged edge of the rev limiter. If the conditions are just right (hot, humid day with no wind), it'll hit that with only 3/4 throttle. That's why I'm gearing it up. I want to be able to cruise at 65 MPH at 6500 RPM, and it's got the grunt to do it.
Oh, and if I had to do it over again, I'd have bought a Kymco to begin with as my first scooter, instead of the Tank Urban Racer 150 DE, which had so many problems from the factory that it was literally falling apart after only 7800 miles.
I love my Yager, I'll likely ride it until the wheels fall off. Then I'll buy new wheels and ride it some more.

I put 7000 miles on a S200 and 57mph/GPS is about the Max. Most who own this scoot will confirm that.
The Yager and the people are far different in more ways than displacement. The 163cc people is air cooled, carb two valve tech. The Yager is 174cc, liquid cooled, FI and four valve. Not even close.
The S200 is a great scoot as long as you don't need to see 60 mph. The direct equal to the S200 is the SYM HD200. Big wheels same style but a true 74 mph scoot. Priced right.

I agree with your explanation of the difference beteween those two scooters. I started with the S200 and , due to the 163cc displacement, upgraded to the S250. Had to give that to my husband due to how top-heavy it was(esp. w/the 16" wheels) .
Went to the dt300i and would only upgrade if they brought the Xciting 400i to the Usa .

I did that with my VW Bus - it is now a houseboat on lake Norris, TN.

If I had to buy a scooter again, it would surely be another Super 8 125cc or its equivalent (no need F.I.,ABS,traction control, etc please, I use it mostly for commuting and abit of touring, don't really need all those....). Its great fun for city riding; light & easy handling right down to walking pace. Even pushing it around the carpark isn't much of a pain. I could lane-split all day long without much worries and I can maintain 100kmh on the highways too. Sure, the engine isn't "high-tech" or very entertaining but it gets the job done and done well without trouble.
FYI, buying a new scooter/bike in my country costs an arm and several legs.....(e.g. Super 8 125cc-now discontinued here-$9500 (US$7200/-), Kymco Xciting 400 $18,000 (US$13,600), Yamaha TMax530 $26,000 (US$19,600) Go figure......

My current ride is a 2005 Kymco Grandvista / Grand Dink 250cc. Owned for 4 years and put almost 14K miles on it and do all my own work.
Piaggio BV350 the best scooter ever made:
350cc is an ideal motor - enough power to maintain 75mph to keep up with cars on the highway (actual speed, not indicated as many speedometers lie by +6mph) great mpg,
Full-sized STANDARD motorcycle tires (TIRED OF STUPID ODD SIZED SCOOTER TIRES=LIMITED CHOICE) - lots of Brands to choose from and easy to change - tubeless tires on small 13" rims are a LOT of work! Larger tires last longer than little doughnut tires and provide much better ground clearance AND better motorcycle like ride quality - doesn't pop you out of the seat like most scooters do.
THIN PROFILE - so you can get between cars on California crammed highways or on side-streets anywhere to get to the front of the line or make a right on red. This is what hurts Burgman 400 and the like - TOO FAT to get between cars!!! Any scooter that is FAT and Bloated is an automatic non-starter.
TESTIMONY - the video below is my local scooter in San Diego. Listen to the owner as he states that the BV350 is by far the best scooter he has ever owned and he as ridden just about everything.
http://youtu.be/S2z0hSu9gIk (http://youtu.be/S2z0hSu9gIk)
Price & Parts & Service - much cheaper than the burgman 400 and there is a ton more piaggio / vespa's on the road than all the Japanese scooters combined. Also, much cheaper than Vespa even though both are made by Piaggio.
Smooth Vibration free - Burgman 400 has vibration issues in the handlebars.
Conclusion BV350 - best overall scooter ever made if you intend to use it like a car including highway riding.
CONS:
Might be too high for some and others might fear the power (which makes no sense to me - its not a racing motorcycle).
Maintenance?? - I would have to own one that is at least 7 years old and put 15K miles on it before I could really decide.
Kymco does an excellent job - belt drive, power, etc but vespa / piaggio is still better. Transmission / Drive belt Kymco = excellent, Vespa/Piaggio = perfect.

Best ever. Ever. Ever.....
I've ridden it and it's a hell of a ride but best ever?
The Tmax, BMW600s just to start IMO make the BV look like , well just another scooter. The Swing also makes it look pedestrian.
You said best "scooter" ever made. No back peddling. If you think the BV is on the same scale as the TMax you've never ridden one. Same for all the others I've mentioned.

Beast ever. Ever. Ever.....
I've ridden it and it's a hell of a ride but best ever?...
Your right Best Ever is inaccurate. I've never ridden the Tmax and I'm sure it is a much more capable ride than the BV. Three problems with the Tmax: #1 Cost $10,000 or $11,000 OTD! That is more than 2x the cost of BV. Also, I can beat the Tmax on my GV250 or the BV because the Tmax violates the Bloat Rule - too big to get between cars. I think $6500 or so would be more fair for the Tmax. Finally, the mpg is what? 38-42? I don't call that a deal breaker but I like 50+ something I barely manage on by GV250 with the uber tall Givi windscreen.
Burgman 650, Kymco MyRoad 700 - too big, to heavy, and offers power that is generally not needed. Heck why not throw in a honda ST1300 checking in a 700+lbs with enough overkill power for 2-1/2 motorcycles. Same for the BMW GT $9500 or close to $11K OTD and almost 600 lbs! Also, with the BMW and any expensive scooter - what will parts cost after the scoot falls on the ground? My Kymco has been knocked over 2x by cars. There was no serious damage and I touched up the paint. BMW parts are just expensive they in the clouds. And parts for the japanse scooters can be back ordered for weeks and sometimes months - read complaints on the burgman forums.
I stand by the statement Best overall (price, mpg, thin profile for traffic, weight, etc.) The owner in that video owns a multi-million dollar dealership.
-
Well, my new GT is on the way! I ordered the black one and it should be here maybe by the end of next week. I was STOKED right after I got the loan and ordered it so I hope that means something. I'm going to order a Puig windshield for it and some mirror extenders tonight so they will be here when the bike gets here. Now all I have to do is find someone who can redo the seat for me and it's all good.
Wish me luck and ride safe everyone, mscmkr
Also, there's an open invitation to anyone who finds themselves in Phoenix for lunch and a ride after so hit me up.
-
Well, my new GT is on the way! ...
Congratulations that is an awesome machine. I know someone in San Diego that bought one a few years ago and loves it.

And parts for the japanse scooters can be back ordered for weeks and sometimes months - read complaints on the burgman forums.
I stand by the statement Best overall (price, mpg, thin profile for traffic, weight, etc.) The owner in that video owns a multi-million dollar dealership.
After the all bold in caps "best ever" it's now the best overall. But only your opinion.
Bloat, price, parts availability now you back peddle . by the way I hear of few handa scoot owners bitching about parts. Your info is inaccurate.
As far as the owner of a dealership being your muse, again just some dudes opinion.
Again the BV is a great scoot but it's not near the best IMO. Whatever the best may be.

Enjoy you'll be fine!

Sorry no RED available.....but enjoy your new 300. I think it is nearly the perfect size engine.
I test rode a BV500 (Piaggio) with like 850 miles on it, and like the previous owner - apparently- found it to be too much weight and power for my liking. Regarding the BV350 - absolutely loved it....as did the Mrs......but not enough dealer support for an Italian bike in this part of Ohio.....but 3 major HONDA power stores nearby....and poor Kymco support, as I have documented elsewhere.
A LOT of folks love your scooter , so there must be a reason for that!
Enjoy

But he doesn't own a BV350. My bet is he's never ridden one from the way his posts read. But his rich friend has so it's the best......
That's the amusing part of the whole bit.

Movie 150 is a great scoot for a 150 w/no complaints. The Sym HD 200 intrigues me though, would love to test ride one for seating comfort. Bigger wheels, more power, liquid cooled are some nice features. Just might be the perfect city scoot, while being a true step through. People 300 might be so too. Most others above 200cc seem to get into the maxi scoot category and after the Downtown 200 debacle I'm not impressed with those. DT200 was too heavy and under powered for it's size. Seating position was unacceptable for a 6 footer......................

At the present time, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, my choice would be Kymco Downtown or Kymco GTI, 300cc class.
It is important to have a local dealer that is fair and dependable. I do, so far.
My GT will do 90+ mph with me on it, 195 lbs.
I love the dependability and power to weight ratio.
Don't need or want a 500-600 lb scooter.
There are a lot of nice scooters to choose from these days but, all, and I mean ALL, have some problems. No brand is perfect.
Glad I discovered the GT a couple of years ago. It has been a pure pleasure.
I could on and on about the pro s and con s of each brand, bad dealers, no dealers, etc, but, I will not.
I am happy we have the choices we have now days.

. . . if I had to buy again . . . .
There are only two disadvantages to the Super8 150 I bought (for me). The first I discovered pretty quick and that is the small gas tank. 1.6 gallons and realistically I'm filling up at 1 to 1.1 gallons when I fill up. That's every 3 days just running back and forth to work with no other pleasure riding. Just to short of range now that I'm in love with scooting. Really didn't see that coming. Second is that I'd get a larger CC scooter. I really thought when I got it that a 150cc scooter would do the trick. It does but I've since expanded my ideas on what I want my scooter to do. For instance, let's go scooter camping which I had never heard of before. So the short strokes would be, bigger gas tank and larger CC scoot.

how would you like a scooter that can get 410.6 KM. on a tank of gas, country roads and no speeding over 60 MPH., ___OR 360 km. just riding every where, any how,,, OR 340 km. ride it like you stole it, 2011 downtown 300i love my scooter!!!

This is why I went from my Like with only 163cc's to the GT with 300cc's. I wanted to be able to go out of town with friends or anywhere my Like couldn't go. I'm dying to get my new GT so I can finally do those things. I may trailer my GT up north the end of the month so I can ride in the mountains. I have really wanted to do that for a while now.
Ride safe, mscmkr

I'm sorry...What country?
Stig
Make a guess Mr Stig. Its a tiny island at the southern most tip of the Malay peninsula. It has approx.5 million inhabitants now (and counting...). Wanna laugh somemore? Well, the cost of a small family car like, say, a Toyota Corolla 1600cc will set U back $125K (US$90K).

Teo let me guess your in Russia drinking a Singapore Sling.

You folks are #3 in the GDP world rankings (per the IMF), behind only Qatar & Luxembourg....
Quite a accomplishment.
In any event I can't talk now, I'm buying a large boat and filling it with Toyotas & Kymcos.
Look for me Tuesday, next.
I'll be wearing a Red Sox hat and flowered surf shorts....we'll tie up next to Merlion.

HoHoHo, I'll be there...first in line!!! HaHa!! Yes, we have certainly come a long way for a tiny country. I've lived here all my life (48 years) but its getting pretty expensive of late, just to get by.... If U enjoy motoring, this isn't the place to live.... Cars & bikes are way overpriced! So is housing. Roads are congested almost every where, nearly every time (its a big city, the whole country is just a city...).There are speeding /traffic light/illegal parking cameras all over the place. Parking is usually a nightmare. Public transport is great but its too crowded during peak hours. We have no canyons to carve, no dirt/mountainous areas to go off-roading....its a concrete jungle out there. And did I mention the weather? Phew! Its always hot & humid everyday, with plenty of rain. Well, I'm real glad I've got a scooter! Its the best way to get around over here, methinks.

Hello teoteo, As a big fan of Formula 1 racing I'd have to say that your nighttime Grand Prix race under the lights is FANTASTIC! ;D

Oh glad U like the F1 Night Race Big Blue. I used to love F1 of the 90s (Senna and Prost era). Those were the days where racing seemed more interesting, where the race cars were more "analogue" in nature. Where there were still manual shifts and clutches and stuffs. It all seemed more involving for the drivers and spectators.
Well, if any of U guys decide to pop by one of these days, do look me up. I'll give U a ride around town on my scooter!!
