I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out why scooter manufacturers design scooter seats the way they do. Almost every seat I have sat on has been extremely uncomfortable. It doesn't seem to matter who builds the bike either. This has to be intentional. Now, I have factored in the fact that we Americans are bigger and heavier but I just don't think anyone no matter what size would be comfortable on these seats.
I can throw out ideas of why they do this like, they don't want anyone to doze off while riding so they make the seat a nightmare to sit on. But that sounds a bit ridiculous. I would love to hear everyone's ideas on this. Chime in and tell me what you think.

As John Wayne famously said: "gringos are too dang big for scooters, s'why God made horses for us!"
I think he was right. 2% of scooter sales go to Mericans. Why change the seat for those 4 guys?

The designers do not actually ride!. If they did, they would make changes like, a wider cheek cup, eliminate the forward slant, etc.
Some motorcycle seats are designed poorly also.
If enough riders would let the manufacturers know how much we dislike these poorly designed seats, they might improve them.

Ever meet an industrial designer that had a grasp on reality? They get the shape they think us knuckle daggers will like and then go CHEAP!

I think it mostly comes down to height, most 5'5" riders will fit on most scooter seats comfortable. Most 6' riders will mostly fit uncomfortably.

I have had women sit on both my Like and GT seats and express that they were both uncomfortable. One woman was 5'4 and about 120lbs. A hard plastic knuckle sticking up pressing into your butt is going to cause pain regardless of your size. The Like is famous for that little item. I just don't buy into the whole "we are bigger they are smaller" thing and that's why the seats suck. A lot of manufacturers who build motorcycles for here in America have horrible seats and they sell thousands of them right here in the good ole USA every year.
