Title: Scarey Maxi Fix Picture
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on December 17, 2015, 03:11:06 AM
This is what you have to do to replace a belt that breaks on a Burgman 650.
That is the engine and CVT case sitting behind the scooter, nearly completely disassembled from front to back, to this state, in order to get the engine out to replace the belt.
About 20 hours of shop time. Estimates for the service at least in the $2500+ range.
Suzuki does not have a schedule time/mileage to replace the belt - as it is never intended to be replaced. If it snaps - often the repair is more than the value of the scooter - so they are sold on rather than repaired.
It is some sort of an aluminum belt....and apparently they do not fail often - but if/when they do...!

I compare this picture to the video I've seen of a fellow replacing his broken CVT belt on his Honda Silverwing on the shoulder of a southern highway!! So, not all big maxi-scoots are so massively  complicated to repair when a belt lets go.
An amazing image to me - (I thought a little Honda PCX was crazy hard to valve service, but this >)
In fairness to this big scooter -  many owners swear by these massive scoots - and say they are the absolute best thing on two wheels to own.
I wager that there is not one Burgman 650 owner in 100 who would attempt this repair - & think how many of us can do a 1>2 hr belt change on our scooters.

My KIA's drivetrain is less mass than that. No wonder the price increases, technology or [?].
