Title: Who else is Ready for warm weather?
Post by: Forbes1964 on February 09, 2016, 08:29:28 PM
Am I the only one who's ready for warm weather? I recently purchased my Xciting 250, aownd I'm ready to ride daily.
Although I live In Tallahassee, Florida, it has been too cold for me to ride the nearly 50 mile commute to work. I rode ONE time, and I'm HOOKED!! But every other day has been too cold.  As it stands now, I can only ride on weekends on relatively short errands. I'm finding excuses to ride though. Just venting. Who else is ready for SPRING????

We had balmy a 63 degrees here in Oregon today. After doing my valve adjustment and air filter service I went out and rode with only a tee shirt under my lined bike jacket. Beautiful 30 minute ride! WooHoo!  8)

Very ready for Spring! No snow here, but pretty cold in the morning, down in the low twenties. Low enough to make it impractical to commute to work and have to take off the many layers I would have to wear.  We are expecting the highs to be almost 50* by Friday, so I will be riding this weekend. Sometimes I really envy those of you who live in the warm climates and can ride year-round. Enjoy it for us!

We are in the middle of a heatwave. Low 80s this week. This is definitely not normal. Normally 60s.

Went on an errand tonight. It was 39 degrees when I headed back home. If I just could keep my hands warm, I'd be ok. Just tired of cold. I'm a warm weather guy through and through.

Gloves.
I live do east of you and yesterday it was 36 when I left the house 60 on in the afternoon I was warm all day. You need three season gear in north Florida.

That said you're not gonna not much sympathy for north Florida winters around here. Theses guys ride in real winter!

Me, me, me! I am so ready! Have had a few short "honey-do" rides when it warmed to high 50's to low 60's. I await for the 80's when I can gripe about sweatin'  like a pig!

I figured the northern guys wouldn't give me much sympathy. Lol. I had on "winter" gloves. But winter gloves sold at the place in Tallahassee are probably good for about 50degrees if riding more than 30 minutes. I do admit that my hands get cold easily. Sometimes I believe that my 84 year old mother's hands can tolerate cold better. [emoji23]

Its already riding season here in Vegas. For the last few days temps have been in the low seventies. The normal is 61.62 degrees. It is supposed to be in the low 70's again next week. February usually comes in like this. At the end of this month we have the annual Vegas HighRollers Weekend Scooter weekend with the vintage Vespas and Lambrettas. I have learned though that the last weekend of February tends to get very cold with highs in the low 50's.

Yes. And Tallahassee is even worse. I just bought this thing. And I'm anxious to simply RIDE. It's supposed to only get down to 50 tonight. And it's supposed to get to 70+ tomorrow. I'll tough it out in the A.M. I'm ridin' !

Nice mild riding weather Trout. It will be in the 80s and 90s down south. El Nino. Darn, it's February. Enough of this.. They say it rain again soon.

I have cabin fever real bad.
I want some warm sunny days to ride.
Where I am, it is in the teens and twenties with snow and ice.
Every day I look at my GT sitting in the garage and think about riding.

I live in Florida and my sister is still in Iowa.  We were talking yesterday, and, it is interesting the way a persons opinion of what is cold changes over the years.

I guess Florida makes me soft. Lol. I was born in July, the heat of the summer. And my hands get COLD easily. If it's below 50, they eventually get numb even standing outside with no wind. Today I drove to work. It was about 48. I had on gloves with the "hot hands" warmers inside. By the time I got to work they were numb. I guess next winter I'll buy those heated gloves.

I use Oxford Hot Hands Over grips.  They work great for me but my windscreen completely shields my hands.  I use military thermal trigger mittens with fleece liner gloves.  Completely comfortable into the low, 30s. If I didn't have the wind screen  I would definitely have heated gloves.  I hear Gerbing makes good ones.

Thanks again Mr. Paul. You just don't know how helpful you've been to me in just the short time I've owned my scooter. I'll check them out. Because it's nearly spring time, I'm debating whether to buy them now vs getting some summer riding gear  and waiting until next fall or whenever I have some extra cash to buy the gloves. I'll likely be bothering you concerning the best combination of price and quality of summer riding jackets and some over pants that I can wear over my lightweight summer clothing. Thanks again.

Post above regarding the Gerbing heated gloves that work off two lithium batteries in each wrist sleeve.
Recharge them at night....turn them on 10mins before rolling the scoot out....set at middle heat setting. Have ridden down to low 20's (F.) in comfort - with heavy leather gauntlets as over-gloves. Teens are tolerable if kept under an 90 mins....4 degrees (F.) ride to work one day for 1/2 hour.
I love to ride year around if the Ohio roads are clear of most ice and snow - but nothing   worked to keep my hands warm for more than 25 mins on those cold days until I tried the Gerbing glove liners. I ride without a screen on my LIKE200i, and only a short sport screen on my Burgman.
These Gerbings make winter riding easier - it was always my hands that limited my time on the scoot in the winter.

Yep, gotta watch for the sand in the bends.....we have run-off areas here, like on F1 tracks.
I'm laying on my back as I took this picture - you shoulda seen the High Side I did! Spectacular!

Next best thing for warm hands is those brush guards for the brake/clutch levers dirt bikes have to keep the wind deflected off of your hands.

Thats a great idea 2wheel! Had I known that earlier, I would have probably gotten a smaller windscreen and used the brush guards along with grip warmers.

Ok. The Easter snap has come and gone. Hopefully no more sub 50degree days. By next winter I'll have some heated glove liners and/or some wind deflectors to protect my hands. But until then, only the rain can stop me.
