I was revving up my People 50 a little on it's stand and noticed the rear wheel was really shaking the scooter around. I'm thinking either it's out of balance or the wheel is bent.
Do I take it to a tire shop or a scooter shop to have it fixed?

Grab the wheel and pull it side to side. Also turn it by hand. If you feel any grinding or looseness, take it to the shop.

I had the issue with a loose rear wheel on my Like. Grabbing and shaking it back and forth. I took it to the shop. They just tightened the axle nut. Now I check and tighten it every service.

No grinding or looseness

Had a bit more time to check it out. Nothing is loose. No sound coming from it. Can't shake it. Wheel not bent.
I don't see any wheel weights, so I suspect it's very out of balance.
Do I need to take the wheel off to have a wheel shop balance it or will they do it?

take the wheel off and check the axel to make sure it is not bent, then take the wheel to get balanced! before you take the wheel off, put something close to the side of wheel and check if the wheel is bent if it is bent order a new wheel

de dee, I'm bringing my dt300 in to have the new metzelers mounted and balanced on Thursday. I'm bringing the scooter and letting them take off old tires and install the new ones. They are a motorcycle/tire shop, so I'm letting them handle everything. It would be cheaper to take the tires off yourself, but I'd rather pay a little more and have them do it. If it helps, I can let you know how much I pay by Thursday evening.

This is normal. With the bike on the stand when you rev it, it will dance around. There's a lot going on, the cvt moving in and out, the rear wheel drive spinning. It wont matter if you have the wheel/tire balanced

what scooter do you have ,. on my DT 300i the wheel does not wobble or bounce right up to 7,000 RPM.

He has a People 50, De dee. I don't think they even try to balance wheels on the 50's. Our first scoots were 50's, Vino and Agility. Neither one had weights on the rims.My bright idea is "Stingy man's Dyna Beads" which are 1 to 2 ounces of BB's. Worked really well in the DT300i. I would recommend breaking the bead and tossing in 1.5 oz or whatever the weight of 1 tube of BB's from Wal-Mart. Bet that would fix yer problem.

The people does have 16 inch wheels so probably should be balanced

The air soft pellets are better but if the rim is bent putting them in will only make it worse (can't help out of round).

On my wife's Metropolitan, there is just a slight vibration, no dancing.

I checked and the wheel is not bent or out of round.
