Title: I have been getting paid to ride a scooter.
Post by: PaulF on December 22, 2016, 10:17:06 PM
I have been riding Vespa Scooters towing trailers with advertisements on them for some casual work and it has been a lot of fun.  We ride in groups of two or four and travel together, mixing in some riding then parking with the trailers on an angle to show off the advertisement.   Each advert campaign is usually for different companies that are pushing their products or specials at that time.   The company on the ad has been removed in the photo so as to not upset anyone.
Not all locations are as scenic as this, most of the riding is done in the city.

Wow, never heard or seen this in the states. Fine idea and what a fun way to make some extra cash. I use mine in my business to do construction bids.

Thanks Wolf but unfortunately the campaigns are not happening like they did a few years ago but I am happy to do what ever comes my way.

Karl,  I believe the hitches were just manufactered by an engineering company.

Will do that but may be a couple of weeks until I get to ride them again as we are not sure if the next ad campaign is being approved at this stage.

Have you had the opportunity to ride the Vespa s without the trailer attached?. If you have, what do you think of the Vespa s?.

They look like LX 150's??

Most of what we ride are LX150s or LX250s and there are still a couple of the older 150s around for back up bikes.   Most of the 150s have at least 40,000 to 55,000 kilometers on them and the two 250s we just got hold of both have 34,000 kilometers on them.   Being the smallest agency of the company we tend to get 'hand me down' bikes and trailers.   The 250s are comfy, powerful and more modern but they are heavier and bulkier than my LIKE or the 150s but I don't think I could give a proper review unless I got to ride a newer one.  With all the riding they do they are very reliable and hardy.

You get use to it pretty quick but you do feel it at times going over bumps and when turning a corner.  At least it makes the car drivers more aware of you.

I use my V-strom as a company vehicle, so I get paid for the time and mileage, and at tax time, I take standard GSA reimbursement rate as a deduction from my taxes as I own it personally

I also get paid to drive around with my UXV450i but I have that registered in my company name so I deduct actual expenses  instead of mileage, afik, there is no standard rate for UTVs/ATVs

That's excellent Randy.  50 cents a mile is pretty good.

That's excellent Randy.  50 cents a mile is pretty good.

the rate dropped a couple ¢ from last year, and about a nickle fro it's peak 3 - 4 years ago

nearly 20k business miles a year, it becomes a substantial $10k deduction, many of those miles are general office errands and visits to sites that never become jobs, so, while I still get the tax deduction, I don't get to bill a client for the riding time or mileage  >:(
