I have made two reasonably long trips on my Kymco People 300. One was 340 miles round trip; the other was a little over 200 miles (all in the same day). I was wondering how many people on the forum have made even longer trips? Also, what was your cruising speed. Do you prefer Interstate or state highways?

Chattanooga Tn to Washington DC couple years ago. It did good just very heavy rain the first day and must had assembly lube in the cvt caused the belt to slip. It does good on the interstate but it's a lot more fun on state roads. The fuel cap under the seat is pain in the azz when strapping luggage to the seat. ROK straps is a must have, I didn't know of them when I took my trip they would have saved about 15 minutes at each fuel stop.

Springfield and Branson, MO on one trip from Selmer, TN. Then Cumberland Gap, TN from Hillville, TN. Both over 400 miles, first at 50-55 mph, second at 55-65 mph. Second trip on the DT300i and GTi300. Both good cruisers but the People is a PITA for refueling like you said. Wotsa ROK strap?

Soon to do about 1500 miles round trip to Missouri on my SW. Riding with a group of Goldwings as they cruise at 75. Attending a Goldwing forum meet and greet. Will do a trip report following the trip next month in late April. This will be my first long ride on the SW since getting it a few years ago. I've done a couple of multi thousand miles trips on my past Burgman's.

I did approximately 1500 miles, from Memphis to Robbinsville, North Carolina and spent the next 4 days riding the Dragon's tail, state hwy 129 and the Cherohala skyway and thru a lot of mountain roads. I was on my Silverwing and was doing 40 to 50 in the mountains and 65 to 70 on the interstate. There were 6 SW's on the ride It was one of my best rides.

ROK straps are tie downs. Looped on the outside ends with a snap /adjuster in the middle and one side is elastic. No hooks to damage paint

NC to Vermont, about 2,700 miles in 7 days.
Average 72mpg+ on the interstates doing about 70-75 mph.
On the Downtown not the GT. Downtown not as pretty but
its more functional and flexible.

I have found these post helpful and encouraging. I just got back from a trip from Montgomery, AL to Cocoa, FL. We took the cage but used the trip to look for motorcycle routes. We started on 231 from Montgomery to Dothan, AL. In Dothan we hit Hwy 84 and followed it until it hit Hwy 27. I would have liked to follow 27 further south, but because of time constraints we got on Interstate 10. The traffic was fast, but I think still doable for my scooter (People GT 300). Hwy 84 and Hwy 27 are great motorcycle routes. My neighbor has great praise for Hwy 84; he has rode it from Alabama to Texas.

Anyone else done long trips?
Looking for a scooter for my wife (she has a yager now) that she can ride from Colorado to California and also down to Southern Mexico. Need a solution for 3000-5000 mile trips.
-
Don't think I would use a gti300 for southern Mexico, need something with better fuel range or at least storage

Get a peg packer for one side https://bestrestproducts.com/shop/pegpacker/peg-packer-2-gallon-unit/, (https://bestrestproducts.com/shop/pegpacker/peg-packer-2-gallon-unit/,) & an auxiliary fuel tank for the back :) http://californiascooterco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/650_DSC4952.jpg (http://californiascooterco.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/650_DSC4952.jpg)

I remember the morning I took a snap of the odometer on my LIKE200i when it clicked over to 4000 miles. I got tears in my eyes, thinking: "I could have just ridden from Boston to San Diego on this little plastic scooter! This thing is no toy!"

Those are big rides and I've done them on a Burgman 650 and any large Maxiscooter will work like the Burgman, Honda Silverwing, BMW and the Kymco 700. One needs the extra weight for all day riding comfort, better wind handling capability and the larger engine for passing and riding all day long at interstate speeds if needed.
I am tempted though to ride my little Kymco 250 BW on a long trip sometime. Gotta do something with that seat though.
BTW, the B400 is also a capable tourer as I took mine on a multi thousand mile trip to Big Bend and rode with 2 other B650's and hung with them all day long. I think I had heard good things about the 400cc Majesty as a worthy tourer too.
Perhaps the gals would like the 100 pound plus weight difference between the 400 and 600+cc class. Deb and I also rode our B400 2 up all over the country; in California, Arizona and Colorado. The B400 is perhaps more popular on the Burgman forum than the 650. If I were to get another Burgman it would be the 400.

IMO, south of the border, larger diameter wheels just gotta be superior to smaller wheels.
Wear full body armor, cuz you Are gonna go down.
Jerry cans have got to be the best way to carry extra fuel... Stig has recently posted a pic of a YL fully packed and carrying extra fuel.
I would advise travelling with at least a small group.
Safety first !

The Piaggio BV350 is a very nice highway ride. It easily cruises at an indicated 75 MPH and is pretty okay in windy conditions.

Longest trip so far is 450 miles to east coast Mancherster N.H. next ride I hope is to the west coast 8,000 Km. round trip, 2011 downtown 300i 85,000 Km. got to do this before I get to old,.

Just completed a 3,516 mile trip from Columbus, Ohio to Texas. There were 2 Kymco scooters on the trip : GTI 300 and a People S250. We all had a great time ! This is one of our shorter scooter trips. The longest was 6,344 miles and 28 days. I broke a cvt belt last year coming back from Yellowstone N P. No problem, I had a spare with me. The break occurred in Iowa and I was back on the road in 1 1/2 hours. A group of us have traveled from Maine to Washington on 250 cc scooters. I also have 7 motorcycles including a BMW 1200 GS. The scooters are great fun for traveling. We take 2 lane back roads and the most common question is : "How did you get your scooters here ?". We answer, "We started them up and headed this direction !"

Not trying to be cute rocketmannn, but how did make a 35 hundred mile trip, going from Ohio to Texas? You could have gone from DC to LA and not have gone that far.???? Welcome to the forum.
-
It's easy. First you visit the Civil War battlefields in Kentucky, such as Perrysville, then you ride part of the Natchez TrailParkway. Now it's time to head to Hot Springs AK for a few days of exploring the area, then on to Texas to ride the Hill Country. A bit of wandering around Jefferson and Nacodoches before heading to Austin for two days. Into the Hill Country with stops in Fredericksburg, didn't miss the National Pacific War Museum, Llano and San Saba, home of Tommy Lee Jones, and then north to Clebourn to visit family and explore the Dallas, Ft Worth for three days. Headed north east into Oklahoma, thru Broken Bow taking 259 north to highway 1 east. This is the Talimena Scenic Drive, great views in the mountains !! Across Arkansas through Mountain View to Mamouth Springs at the border and into Missouri and a tour through the Mark Twain National Forest. We then crossed the Mississippi River and Ohio River into Kentucky. With a stop in Paducah and Louisville we headed home !! That is how you get that many miles from Columbus Ohio to Texas and back !
-
Just for reference, DC to La roundtrip is 5,336 miles if you never get off the freeway.Columbus Ohio to Austin Texas roundtrip is 2,548 miles on the freeways. So 3,516 miles is easy on all back roads with plentyof exploring. Remember it's not the destination but the journey !!!!
-
Well that certainly explains all of that. I didn't doubt you at all. I was thinking of DC to LA one way, via the most direct route at approx. 2578 miles. You guys are certainly racking up the miles on those 250's. The longest trip I ever made on a scooter, a 600cc SW was from Memphis, Tn to Robbinsville NC
and spent 5 days riding thru the Smokies and the Dragon's Tail, with a group of other Silver Wing riders. We had a great time. In 2004 I rode my Harley from Memphis to Sturgis South Dakota. 1361 miles one way. Two days up and two days back, or nearly 700 miles a day. Always wanted to ride to Alaska, but don't guess I will. While the miles don't bother me, the years do Good to share some fond memories with you.

We do a long distance scooter trip once a year plus many shorter rides. On the 24th we will head to Oshkosh for the EAA fly in. In late September we will make the yearly pilgrimage down the Blue Ridge Parkway, always fun. I had 53,000 miles on my People 250 when I sold it, after purchasing an S250. I sold the S250 to a friend at 32,000 miles. It was the 250 on the Texas trip. It still runs like a clock. I still like my 2 BMW's but I think the Kymco GTi300 is great fun.
-
Are the BMW's scooters or m/c's? If they are scooters, then they have Kymco engines in them.
-
Not scooters, 1982 R 100 CS and a 2007 R 1200 GS. I sold my 1976 R 90/6 last year to a fellow in Germany for $6,700.00. It had only 24,000 moles on it and looked great.
