I just bought one of these for my other daughter to ride with my other daughter who has a Polaris 90 Outlaw. The 90 Outlaw is completely stock also but is a good bit faster. Is something wrong with this quad or is there some kind of limiter I can adjust or take off? It's very disappointing.
Also one more question the headlights don't work. Any ideas there? I don't want to drive an hour back to the dealer unless I have to. This was a brand new held over 2016.

First check the throttle limit screw in front of the throttle. Make sure it has full travel. If throttle limit screw is good you want to remove part #22112 "collar drive face". That is a bushing that stops the primary pulley set from closing all the way. Safety feature to reduce speed for children. You will probably have to remove the plastic foot well, plus all the bolts on the CVT cover and need an impact to remove the nut off the primary. Slide the outer primary off and slide the collar drive face off of the boss drive face. Keep the inside pulley pushed in place while you do this so the weights will not fall out, no big deal but you will have to pull the inside primary pulley to install the weights back if they do fall out. Squeeze the rear pulley set to loosen belt when reinstalling so as not to torque the belt down between the pulley set. Rotate the pulley by hand a few turns to make sure the belt is not stuck. Should run in the upper to mid 30 mph range after removal.

On my MXU 450 I think you have to turn the key one click past run for the lights to come on. Not sure if the 150 is the same! Other than that check the fuse and make sure a bulb is in place.

Thank you Bratman. I appreciate the info. I already knew about the screw from the owners manual. I'll check out the other part tomorrow.

I know you dont want to drive back to the dealer, I wouldn't either. But the machine is under warranty so they should make things right. You may wish to consider you could be saving yourself a couple of hours driving but spending days hunting down a problem yourself. I hope you get things sorted out.

Yeah, I'd prefer not to go back to the dealer. It's around an hour away. I understand limiting these things but this is a little overkill. It will only do 14mph and it takes a bit to get there.

Something is definitely wrong.

Thinking you should be closer to 20 mph with the cvt limiter in. My grandson's 04 90 would run 16 mph with the collar in the cvt. The limiter doesn't really affect ac celebration which should be decent on a 150. You may have to make that trip.

There is a specific way to derestrict the MXU150. Doing it the wrong way will cause damage according to my local dealer.
You CANNOT just screw out the limiter screw. The CVT is restricted and if you screw out the limiter screw the bike will over-rev, over heat and then you got problems. Kymco did the restricting so that the bike could be usd by a 12 year old and up.
If your 150 is a 2017 spec, you should be able to derestrict it. I would call your dealer and ask him about the derestrict bulletin.

Not sure if this post is still active because it's been a few months, but just curious if you got the problem worked out. I just got a 2016 mxu150 and have the same concern. I knew before I bought it I would be taking out the spacers on the belt, but I expected a top speed of 20 before doing that and am getting around 14 as well. I want to make sure any other issues are worked out before I take the spacers out.

The reason I mention the limiter screw is just in case it was screwed in a little to deep at the factory or dealer. There is a rev limiter in the cdi box so damage from over revving is highly unlikely. I would suggest turning the screw out half a turn and see if top speed and acceleration increases. Remove the CVT limiter collar described above.

I actually haven't done anything yet, my daughter has been busy and hasn't had time to ride it. She did ride it last night but is tired of getting smoked by her sister on the Polaris 90 so I'm gonna have to do something. I called the dealer today and checked the screw tonight. I was able to loosen the screw so the throttle could move more but that didn't help at all. It still seems restricted somewhere else, possibly where you all mentioned. I put the screw back to where it was though, just on the chance it could over rev.

Going to take out the limiter or whatever you call it, here in just a bit. I'll let you all know how it turns out. Thanks for the help.

Bratman 2, my 150cc is a 09 will what you drive to take the collar off work for mine?
-
Most likely your drive boss is not restricted in a 2009 model.
-
This thing only does 14 mph something has to be restricted lol
-
I found the spacers there are indeed spacers on this model and she goes pretty quick now
-
Most likely your ATV is not an 09 then
Glad you got it solved
Next time, please, post your questions in just one area

I wasn't getting answers where I posted it originally so I asked here, you know the best way to get answers? Is too ask questions in more then one place I was looking at Google and Fb forums. It says the date on the frame up front maybe I read it wrong.

I just got a 2021 MXU 150 for my girlfriend. Now I know it’s still in the break in period but I’ve removed the collar and pulled the throttle screw all the way out and it still maxes out at 30mph on dry pavement with me on it, and I’m 185 lbs. Was thinking this machine should hit about 40 from the factory with no modifications such as carb or smaller sprocket.
What is everybody else hitting top speed on a bone stock MXU 150? Anything else I can do but still keep it all factory? Will it get faster after the break in period?
Thank you guys!
