Scooters - 125 to 300 => Downtown 300 => Topic started by: kneeslider on August 28, 2018, 01:54:54 AM

Hi All,
As I know it, the my Downtown 200 uses the same clutch as the 300.
My DT is now around 73,000kms on its factory fitted clutch and bell. I need to replace it in the next few months, the three pads on it is now quite thin.
So far I could only find a few options for replacement:
1) Original
2) Driven F1 (taiwan), apparently it is a HiT clutch
3) Ferodo
4) eBay item
Which leads to my questions:
1) Is there a min thickness the pads on the clutch should be?
2) How long should it last?
3) Should I change the clutch bell as well?
Thanks All.

Yeah, the min spec is @2 or 3mm....
But if you're getting 75000km out of a stock clutch, why would you want anything but a Kymco part?
Probably wouldn't hurt to give the new clutch a nice new bell as well - for many more years of trouble free clutching!
By all I've read and from my 5yrs of ownership -- it seems that Kymco has got their CVT parts dead right for trouble free riding.

Hi Stig,
Well, as usual for us meddlers.
Something to explore with the ideal that it will make it that little bit better.

With all the scoots in the Far East (and just about everywhere except the US) it seems some outfit ought to be in the parts business closer to Malaysia. Taiwan is closer to Malaysia!

Problem is with Malaysian customs, anything above RM500 (inclusive of shipping) will be taxed 30% and additional 10% SST.
RM500 is about USD125.

Well, that really sucks! And I bet that nothing like that is even produced in Malasia. The politicians there are just like the US hacks!

Yeah. Nothing locally produced.
Haven't you heard of the 1MDB issue and our ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak whom have stolen USD billions from the nation?

No! They catch him and throw him under the jail, yet? That's awful!
-
Not yet.
He is being charged now but I will take years to take him down.
They raided his house and children's houses, the police totalled up the loot consisting of jewellery, Birken bags, branded goods and cash amounting to over a billion Ringgit Malaysia, about USD250 million.

Oh, that is BAD! He going away for a long time!

That is just the tip of the iceberg.
Our new government has ongoing investigations to attempt to reveal all that he and his cronies have done.

There is a distributor in the US that sells a lot on Ebay and on their own site. They have a lot of stuff for the bigger Kymco models. They are very good at solving this problem and ship a lot of parts to South America and Asia. I'm not going to say who it is, but look for listings on US ebay that seem like they are for people in other countries. I'm sure they can help you.
