I bought a 2017 People GT 300i last fall used with only 124 miles on it. I got such a good deal on it I bought it sight unseen from a dealer who says it is still covered under a 2 year warranty until July 2019. I took it out yesterday and I noticed the speedometer wasn't working properly. When I turn on the bike the needle does a full swipe. When I drove it the needle wouldn't go over 15 mph at first and eventually not at all. I looked under the bike and noticed a connector with 2 green wires plugged into not connected to anything, just sitting on top of the plastic dirt protector. Does anyone know where that connector plugs into and if it has anything to do with the speedometer. Green I think is ground. It might worked it's off. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Is the connector with two green wires near the side stand? If so, it has no function that really concerns us and nothing to do with the speedo. The front wheel has a silvery disk punched with a whole bunch of slots on the right side. There is a small black plastic block with a wire that senses the slots that may be causing the speedometer not to work. Check it for dirt or being more than a sixteenth of an inch away from the tone ring.

If that doesn't solve the issue......back to the dealer for warranty work.

The black box looks very clean, like a new bike and is very close to the slotted disk. The wire I wrote about comes of a wire harness that runs up the right side of the bike. There is one other wire coming off that harness that has a yellow/white wire and a green wire plugged into another wire. Is it a bad sensor?

Stig is right (as usual) about the warranty aspect. I will not trynto get you to do anything that would void your warranty BUT! But those wires down the right side should have noyhing to do with the speedo. No, I don't think the sensor is bad on a new bike. What I suspect now is the connector for the sensor is probably loose or has a bad contact. Our People GTi300 is under winter wraps so it will take me a while to "unwrap" it! Meanwhile, please see what your dealer says about warranty which IS transferable.

I just took a closer look at the sensor and discovered that it slides in and out easily and upon a closer look I'm missing a tiny screw that holds the sensor in place. Anybody know the size of the screw?

I'm told I need a 6x12 bolt.
-
The proper terminology would be M6 - 12. But what thread? M6 seems a bit large....However, I will bet your speedo problems go away when the bolt is replaced.
-
I thought the M6-1.00 -12 was going to be to big and to short but it's the correct one. Thanks for the help.
-
Yeah, M6-1.0×12! That's the way it is supposed to go! Does this mean the speedometer works right?

Hi all I have just joined this forum and don't know how to post a question I have just recentlyurchased a 2015 400i xciting very pleased with it so far a different ride from my cbf 1000 anyway I don't seem to be able to remove the mirrors from the scooter I know how to adjust them but need to remove to install a GPS mount ut Canton get them off a yone got any advice or odears thanks

C'mon, Grub! Does it work now?
-
Sorry for the delay, I thought I answered the question which is yes. The M6-1.00 x 12 is the bolt to hold the sensor in place. I also put a little thread lock on the bolt. The speedo works fine.
