It's harder to find 5W50 in my area and I am thinking of using 5W30 or 10W40, will that be okay?
Any one have experience with that?

I've been using 10w40 for years in my scooter and motorcycle. Recently switched to 15w50 and can't see or feel any difference.

The owner's manual will specify a range of oil weights that would be compatible with your bike. 5W-50 is not as common as 15W-40 or 10W-30 etc but they would be fine to use as long as Kymco allows it.

Here is the page from the Downtown 200 owners manuals on alternate oils.

Notice that the oil chart has different weight oils for different temperature ranges. I live in a moderate climate so I don't need 5 weight, which is for cold temperatures. The second number is for the high temperature, 50 weight where it's quite hot. I use 10-40, which is a lot cheaper and easier to find than 5-50.

I've used 15x40 and now experimenting with 10x40.
5x50 is full synthetic. If you start with synthetic you should stick with it.

For the past more than 500,000 miles----bikes/scooters/Miata/Mitsubishi car----I have been using WalMart House Brand oil---10-40 for scooter----=no engine troubles, good price, available easy in N America.

I believe he said he sells all his bikes at the end of the warranty period.
In which case - he could get by with old McDonald's french-fry oil.

I disagree on my getting rid of bikes at end of warranty---at least I ride them. Some recent mileage at turn in---Suzuki GS 500E 64,000 miles, Kawasaki Concours 56,000 miles, 2 of my four Honda Helix 50,000 miles each, one Burgman 400 over 40,000 miles----secret frequent oil changes. WalMart Oil=fine. Never oil related engine problems.
