Title: Thought I'd give our local Kymco dealer a try
Post by: Chris0381 on July 31, 2020, 01:44:23 PM
I like to replace my belt every 3 seasons. And I want to get the 23100-KEB7-900 which is a 737 x 18 x 30 belt. So I called our dealer in Groton, CT and they did not have the belt.

But..... they had a Kymco order going out soon and I could get my belt with that order. So I asked the price:

Well its suddenly now a special order that will be $65 plus tax. ????

Just funny how an order going out soon becomes a special order. I politely told them it was too much for me.

I would get one from my favorite scootertunning.ca but I don't know the quality of the Gates Motoforce belts they have.

Let me ask, would a 738 x 18 x 30 from parts for scooters suffice being a mm longer?

$65 seems ok to me----walking/trouble on roas trip much more expensive!

This is not cheap hobby or transportation in US.

Yep, retail plus freight, 65.00 seems about right.
Looks like this belt you want is going on a 50cc?

I would not worry about gates quality. I do not know if they are comparable to spec but I have used their belts and hoses for multiply auto rebuilds without any problems.

Well I just ordered this one from TheBeltPalace after the owner gave me a return call. Its nice to have a personal touch when making an online order.

We are not buying SCUBA equipment here ; its a belt and IMO $65 + plus for a 737 belt is ridiculous markup.

How do you know what the mark up is? Do you know what the kymco dealer cost is?

No seriously. I believe BANDO makes some Kymco belts. I practically just got for $34 what the dealer wanted $65 for. I believe some Kymco belts come with BANDO printed on them. The Parts for Scooters BANDO belt was $30 but 1mm longer than spec.

My old BANDO belt is in still pretty good shape after 3-4 seasons but I like to replace it for a bit of peace of mind and its nice to have a spare as I do carry the tools to replace it on the road if I have to but I do have Progressive towing insurance.

But coming across one of Zombies old post, he describes the ridiculous mark ups on these Asian scooter parts.

Now if you really want to see markups, take up New England SCUBA diving all year round. I miss it but glad I'm not forking out that money any more. $180 for a pair of rubber glove system-   shorturl.at/gyD01  -was just one item that was essential if you wanted to use your hands to drive home.

Gates belts are quality belts here in Finland, as I have read the local scooterforums for example. A bit more expensive, too. So I would recommend the quality of them. Price level for example for Like 50 is regular belt 28 €, and "plus" with iridium? in it is 36 €. And you can expect lasting like 10 000 km and longer, lets say 15000 km,depends time also I think.
So my choice is definetly Gates, when the time comes. I have now 14500 km and 9 years with genuine belt, told by previosly owner, but he was not "sure" as always when you ask.

Chris, did you try Razee's in North Kingston, RI? I bought both of my Kymco's there and order parts through them as I need them. My original hometown is Westerly, RI, which is 20 mins from Groton, CT. They might even have the part you need in stock, although I don't know the price.

Their number is 401-295-8837
