Title: Not the same ol tire question
Post by: bdsimmons2 on July 19, 2022, 10:45:41 PM
Okay, I can tell from combing the forums you all prefer the Michelin City Grips for replacements for the Kenda rubber bands that came on my Like.
Anyone running City Grip 2s?
Also, where in the heck can these be found in stock? I've been creeping on revzilla/cycle gear for months with them out of stock.

Thanks!

Yeah good luck finding that City grip2 for the like. But I tell you the regular old city grip is pretty good Tire!

METZELER 7 TEEN work out well too,
IF precisely balanced. Beads didn't work in them for me. Only static and dynamic rotate balancing does.
Second choice would be inexpensive PIRELLI ANGELS. Same story with balance....

But any half decent tyre brand way better than the Kenda's IMHO!

Seeing lately German and Italian forums, there's some people who are quite happy with their OEM tyres, though I don't know about their riding profile.

Guess for getting groceries and a stop at your ice cream shop during fair weather, they might be good enough and last.

Thanks All!  Tom you mention the original City Grips... I'm finding those just as hard to come by as the City Grip 2s, as it seems they've been replaced by the 2s. Do you know something I do not?

Thanks!

Ah geez,
I haven't been Michelin shopping in a couple of years...the regular CG in sizes to fit my LIKE200I were easy to find.
REVZILLA, ebay, AMAZON ??
Vespa is still fitting them on most of their models....but can't tell if they're using the CG2..or the CG.

I don't know what size tires you need for your Like 200i, but racingplanetusa.com shows they have the City Grip 2 for my People GTI 300 (110/70-16 and 140/70-16).

Quick search in USA....I see what you mean.
They have them in Germany and Italy...not seeing our 12" Michelin's here!

But will look more....

I just ordered a set of CG2s from Scooter West who claims to have them in stock. This, after I called Michelin who said that the tire was not discontinued, but was not in stock in any of their warehouses and was not scheduled for a production run in the next 4 weeks.

Interestingly, my local scooter shop Scooterville in Minneapolis had them in stock and were happy to put them on for me, and NOT revzilla/Cycle Gear/any of the larger box stores that advertise their stock online.
Perhaps exacerbating this issue, these have also become the tire of choice for the Honda Grom/Monkey series and it's clones, as they have the same size wheel.
I DID pay a decent premium, but I ran my original Kenda flat at 4100 Miles, shortly after posting this, so it was time.

Sounds like a good result all round then. I’m sure you’ll be delighted with the Michelins!
