Title: 2017 Kymco Super 8 150 dies at random
Post by: bmwhendrix on February 10, 2023, 08:05:37 PM
I am puzzled with this.  It will crank and run fine.  It may go 2 blocks or 10 miles and then just dies.  I have drained tank, put on new carb, new vacum petcock, new plug and new cdi.  The stator, trigger and coil all measure resistivity in range per manual.
I thought perhaps the kill switch was shorting somewhere, so I bypassed it.  It still dies.  Any suggestions will be welcome.  Thanks, Don

Does it seem like it's running out of fuel...slowly dieing....or quick shut off... like an electrical problem?
Gas cap venting properly to prevent fuel starvation?
If cap slightly loose still dies?
BTW - Welcome to the forum!

It usually just dies, and if I sit a couple of minutes it cranks back up.  I noticed today that I could keep moving the throttle and it would keep sputtering a bit.  I just read about the venting issues.  Tomorrow I am going to loosen the cap and ride a while.  Thanks for the comments.  I will post the results.

@bmwhendrix, welcome to the hive!
Stigs suggestion in direction fuel cap might be the hint.
Pls see this link too

A) To eliminate any doubt I would set up a sub fuel tank made from a bottle and fuel hose, nurture my carb directely to sort this somehow out.

B) Had once a faulty ignition cable between coil and sparkplug. Fired straight to the frame when warmed up. A piece of shrink tube was the cure.

C) If you have (this new) carb with a bystarter, check that one too.  Might not close and too rich when warmed up.

D) Check all ground points, particular at fuses, test your voltage after starting and revving up. Should reach 14+VDC at battery with lights on.
Pls give us a feedback to learn.

I found my coil was not in spec, so I replaced it.  I also bought a new, non-locking gas cap and drilled a small vent hole in it.  So far, no problem.  Thanks for the input.

I had the same issue and it ended up being the fuel line deteriorated from ethanol gas? It would send small particles of rubber and clog the low speed jet.use Tygon hose. Year and half late sorry.
