Title: Sediment in Gas Tank
Post by: monkeybongos on August 02, 2023, 08:49:43 AM
Would you do anything about it?  Scooter runs fine, not sure how to get it out.

I'd be tempted to say "if it ain't broke...", BUT, I'm sure it'd be better to clear it out.  Guessing you'll need to remove the tank in order to be able to swill it out of the filler aperture to clear it out properly, but it may be that one of the brains on here will have a better suggestion?

looks like rust particles? If so I'd want to remove it if possible..maybe remove your petcock/fuel tap and drain it that way? (assuming it's a gravity fed tank mounted up higher).

At the least I'd slip in an inline fuel filter in your fuel line.

Don’t think it is rust partials.  Pretty sure it’s pieces of leaves and maybe dirt, probably from the 5 gallon jerrycan used to refuel.   It’s kept on the ground, guess I need to wipe it off before using it.

Good point Hawk - pr'haps best if we knew what model of bike / scooter the tank is attached to?

I see nothing there which couldn't be handled by the in-tank filter on the end of the fuel pump......if that is the set-up?
Is it a metal tank?
In any event - my guess is it should be OK to chase it and then siphon out the biggest bits. Save the gas removed - and put it back in - leaving the flakes of crud in the bottom of you catch bottle.
We all probably have some stuff in our tanks after a few years...like if you're eating a tuna sandwich while refueling, etc.
