Title: Simple oil change on a 2012 LIKE200i
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on February 21, 2024, 09:47:14 PM
I use a Toyota washer (bag of 'em from ebay), and lately I've been working off a case of Castrol that I bought yrs ago for my Piaggio.
Probably riding tomorrow (rain? but 44°F in Feb is good) so decided to change the oil today.

I keep maint. records in the back of the owner's manual. Kymco provided a page for that. I've taped in 3 extra pages.

The LIKE200i requires less than a qt of oil.

Alum. washer sandwiched between blue teflon, fits the 17mm drain plug nicely - made for Toyotas.

I always drain the tube from the airbox while I'm down here.
not much in it this time

The scooter doesn't show much change on the dipstick between oil-changes. I check it after every ride.

a lot of things got a spritz of ACF-50 while I was down there...(lots of vids on this stuff, on youtube)

Nice! How many miles and how much time since your last oil change?

"while I'm down there"...  Oh how I've come to understand that phrase!!

Hawk,
Last oil change was last spring...at1300 miles ago
That's about twice as many miles as I like to put on this little air-cooled single. Used to do them at 600>800 miles.
A couple of things slowed down my riding last year. (I'l PM you)

These winter days I feel good getting out every week - otherwise I like at least two rides a week.
Since 2014 I've been splitting riding time/mileage with another scooter. (Forza, Burgman, Liberty)

My riding habits are "a caution" as my old Gran used to say. I put 4,000 miles on the LIKE in a local State park after I bought it. The first 240 were in the parking lot of Emmanuel Christian Academy - my kids school!

Now I only leave home in the dark! (and no, I'm not 'wanted' for anything....that I know of. Surely my felony in Paris is long forgotten? Except by my 97 yr old mother) she tells my kids the story every Xmas)
Go figure...

I don’t even recall what Kymco recommends for an oil change interval?...I’m sure 1300 miles on that full synthetic is nothing. I like to see where you’re draining oil from, too. On my S200 (same motor minus fuel injection) I drained it many times just from the oil screen…only after I disassembled my motor did I see that the real drain plug drained much more oil. Just draining from the screen left quite a bit of oil behind.

Nothing like fresh oil in the scoot!

Yeah, cyclepedia says to change the oil like this....but I prefer to not mess with the large soft metal 'nut' on that thing. I haven't found anything in that screen in a long time.

On the other side of the scooter I open this 17mm plug to drain the oil. If there's some oil still in there - and there is - I don't worry about it.

funny thing is - I bought a spare set of the screen/plug things years ago. Ready for problems....! (after reading horror stories on the Honda forum...I think it was the PCX) That kit is still in the tool drawer, along with various other 'spares'.

BTW: owner's manual says oil change after the first 200 miles - then again at 800 miles - then 1200 miles thereafter. Probably why I settled on "600" being a good number for years :) Can't say it was because I was 'young and dumb' - it's been a lot longer than 2013 since I was young.

here's an internal engine view of your drain plug..it sits at the low point of the motor.
