Title: favorite way to wash my scooters
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on September 24, 2024, 08:29:53 PM
I get a gal. plastic kitchen pitcher full of hot soapy water....and my big ol' soft house brush. Clean one - used only for washing, not painting.
Brush can get in all those tight places around the rear and front hubs, and does not disturb ABS discs or the like.
Rinse it off carefully and blow away from the electrics with the leaf blower - dry with a towel when the Mrs isn't looking.

Start it!
Still runs, yes?

Washed and dried after a rain ride this morning.

pretty scoot! Sure looks like Fall in your yard!...and drying with air is great, keeps the water out of all those little places it might normally sit. I used some company contest reward $ to buy one of those dedicated little handheld motorcycle blowers (works great on the car, too, for the million places water likes to hide).

Drought caused most of our trees distress. They started dropping leaves a week ago.
Ground does look like fall even though we've had no cool weather.

Great tip to use a nice big soft paint brush! I'll be buying one to wash my scoot. I already use a leaf blower to dry it.

I'm gonna have to scrub my AK550, it was out unused during pine pollen season

OK Stig you shamed me into it, I finally got around to throwing some soapy water at the DTX yesterday afternoon between the showers. The ACF50 does do a nice job of protecting the bike, well, apart from the front exhaust (muffler) hanger which has seriously changed colour!  Maybe a strip & repaint job for the Spring?

Oh and I found a stick on ambient temperature and humidity gauge to add to my DTX, the one thing I missed from my old X-Town!

I like that ambient temp gauge. Could you post a source for it please?

all right, Stig is finally rubbing off on Neil! Clean scoots for everyone! (good looking bike, Neil, and interesting driveway surface you have...we don't have anything like that around here)

This search took me to Amazon UK, but I’m sure Amazon US will have similar

Thanks Hawk, the drive material is bonded resin which is as strong as tarmac, but with the advantage of being porous for better drainage. It was laid 7 years ago and so far so good!

interesting, I wasn't aware of that kind of paving material! I did a quick search and found some more info, if my fellow Yanks are interested in reading up on this. I like that the surface is porous as it seems like around here we are paving so much land over in non porous surfaces that the flash flood runoff keeps getting worse and worse.

At the risk of boring everyone on here Hawk, although it may not be obvious from the photos, our drive slopes down to the garage door and pooling was a real issue in only medium to heavy rain with the old tarmac drive.

Since installing this new drive with a new soak away sump area across the front of the garage (invisible as it’s buried under the drive material), never a problem, even in the heaviest downpours.  Material is good tempered and will withstand a jet wash to remove any moss growth- necessary as it’s east facing and in the shade for two thirds of the day.

Stig,

Have considered using a thin coat ceramic, like turtle wax ceramic https://www.turtlewax.com/products/hybrid-solutions-ceramic-wax-spray-coating-16-fl-oz or other sprays for a little extra protection? I love it on my car, it really kept the color and damage down during the rough winter and spring days with New England salt/sand roads...

this, for the win!! I have used just about every type of product imaginable over the past 40 years and this is the clear winner for ease of use, durability, shine and cost. Currently have 3 bikes and 2 cars coated with this. With proper prep and 2 coats it will bead water for well over a year.

Neil, if you're feeling adventurous you can do the ideal surface prep...wash, dry, use a clay bar and then do a final wipe with isopropyl alcohol before applying the Turtle wax coating...or you can just do a wash and dry and apply the Turtle Wax, it will still look great!! Spray on, wipe off!

(last night I decided to clean my helmet for the first time this season..and I used the Turtle Wax on helmet and visor after cleaning. Helps keep it cleaner and easier to remove bugs)
