Title: New DT300i owner.
Post by: scootinChris on May 28, 2011, 11:58:08 PM
Ok, it's done!

Went in town to have a look at the DT300i now it was in Toronto.
Was in luck, because the one in the showroom was already sold and we had just time to have a look, before it was being prepped for pickup by the new owners.

Could not resist and had to put a downpayment, since it seems the next one coming in is to be the last orange DT300i they will get for a while.

Have Fun, Chris.

Yes, there seems to be delays in delivery of the Kymco's due to floods in Manitoba. But should come in next week.
I'm not holding my breath and just wait and see.

Have Fun!

P.s.
Noticed in your tag line the fuel stats.
How do you set that up?

fuelly.com, after you set it up for your DT there is info to install it in your signature.

Started something with fuelly did we? I always kept millage stats on my machines anyway. This just shows everyone how we compare.
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: TANWare on May 29, 2011, 08:26:54 PM
It makes it easy to compare on line without constantly contacting one another. Justwist they also had a corrected value. IE I know 13 miles here on the odo is actually 12.8. Also since it can display 3 different values (US/UK/Metric) it makes it a bit harder unless you log onto each one individually and display your conversion.

Edit; Changed the name to pun the LED's and intended HID's too...............

Nope.
But gives me time to do my M1 test.
Was on call this week and had not even time to look for insurance.  >:(
Checked out the helmet today: HJC IS-16.
Looking forward using it. Sure is a lot better than the Lazer I owned 25 yrs ago  8)

At least the good weather is here!

Have Fun.

Yes, I also kept stats. And this is sure fun to compare.
Thanks for the tip.

And being a metric kind of guy, it'll let me see the stats in a meaningfull way  ;D
Maybe not in the tag, but the data is only a click away.

Same thing I went through. Kymco Canada is having real problems this year and they keep blaming every delay on the floods in Manitoba. They were 2 months late with mine if you remember.

Ok, she has arrived! Pickup is expected to happen this Saturday  ;D

Just planned my ride home, since I'm not allowed on the HW yet with my M1 license.
It's going to be a fun ride.  I actually don't mind having to avoid the HW. Gives me more time to enjoy Oolky.

I also signed up for my M2 / Safety training. A whole weekend riding bikes!

Summer is shaping up to be great  8)

Keep it safe!

Oolky is home ;D
Got the first 70 km on her today.
It was a blast. I haven't forgotten how to ride :)
Had to get used to the throttle of course and was pleasantly surprised that the CVT gives good drive connection and let you break on the engine.

I looked at the lights and they do look quite yellow, I guess that's what happens when you have the LED's to compare them against.
Will have to wait till the fall to see how they perform.

Did some maneuvering in the parking lot and she is less nimble then I anticipated. I'm not complaining though, because it's probably why she handles well in windy conditions. Then again I did not go beyond 100 kmh yet.

Happy scootin  8)

Post by: scootinChris on July 28, 2011, 03:53:10 AM
Yes it's a very nice orange. Just wish what the colour code was, I already need to do a  touch-up.  :'(
Dealer said someone was to come over from Taiwan shorly and would ask to bring some paint.
Hope that works out.  ::)

I got my Bestem case and will paint the mount in the same pewter colour as the grab bar.
Just checked the local Canadian Tire and it's a toss-up between GM Drk Bronzemist Met. and Nissan Pewter Met. (I probably will go with the latter onel)
Once painted I'll show some picktures.

Have only 838 km on it, and only once got her up to 120 km/h.
Have not tested the top speed yet.
Enjoyed every km so far  8)

You have chips or like rubs? I somehow got a couple of black rubs, I found with a no scratch dish scrubby sponge I was able to gently rub them off with mild soap and water. Of course do this at your own risk.

It would be nice however if Kymco made it easy to order replacement tupperware. I can always wish.................

Really! I imagined that this would be no problem.
When I enquired at my local dealer, (Stroud, England), before I even bought the bike, he said there wasn't anythign that he couldn't get, but it may take a few weeks in the case of some parts......

That may be true. I mean like a web site we could go to, a direct from Kymco, that could offer all, including tupperware, OEM parts etc. The bikes are new so parts should not be an issue, but a stock pile we could directly order from and get imediate shipping would be just awesome.............

Edit; as an example the oil cap became loos on my bike. If it fell off and got damaged it would be great to be able to just click and order a new one............
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: SpikeOne on July 28, 2011, 02:29:17 PM
I don't know about "new", they're, what, 4 years old as a model worldwide.
I would have thought that that would have been long enough these days for it to bed in, and in any case the machanical bits and pireces are all standard. There was a fault on mine on day one, and by the end of day three they had sources the parts, fitted them and delivered it back to my home.
But I take your point regarding the tupperware.
I did quite a bit or research when I got mine and only bought it becuase support was pretty good locally.
My first choice, (after the obvious Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki offereings), was Piaggio XEVO400, but alas crap support in the county, (Frazers - Gloucester, steer well clear...).
From what I've heard about Italian electrics I'm still glad I went the way that I did, even if I did lose 3 horsepower.
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: TANWare on July 28, 2011, 02:39:30 PM
When I say new I really meant still in production and scheduled for the next model year. This means parts are still stocked and in production. Once there is a major change then we could become the older non current production model.

I ahd heard Kymco's were of a good reliabilty and didn't hear any major prts horror stories and this is what made it a contender for me. The high MPG and performance within a range I wanted was the deciding factors. I still have no regrets either but it is human nature to want just that little bit more..................

I have been waiting since april for my burnt orange 300i to arrive and its still a no show maybe because im in australia, when I last checked in early july they said, hadn't been shipped yet but should be 3 weeks I am sick of waiting.

I can feel for you, I waited for 2 months for mine and was totally put off by my local dealer. I don't care if it was he or Kymco Canada but I will not purchase from him again.

You are right spike one, I will probably give them another 2 weeks, I did look at the aprilla Sports cube 300 its also a nice scooter. that what I will go with unless things start moving along pretty soon.
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: SpikeOne on August 03, 2011, 10:11:41 AM
When I bought mine, I was given a specific date that it would be in the country, (about 6 weeks hence).
"Give me a couple of days for build", he said, "and you'll have it October the 9th".
He was a couple of days late, but that was all, which didn't displease me.

However, it did break down within 10 miles on the way home!

The back brake seized solid. It turned out to be a missing port in the master cyclinder, which he fixed the following day.
After that - no problems so far...

Post by: frankiej1949 on August 03, 2011, 11:03:21 AM
I bet that was a bit scary Spike. Was thsi the dealers fault or the manufacture. Good job it happened whilst running in. I have had mine 10 days now and love it. In the manual it says it has ABS is this true? I cant say I have noticed. I meant to have a look to see if there was a warning light on the speedo dial.
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: SpikeOne on August 03, 2011, 11:10:34 AM
It was a manufacturing fault. they even replaced the cyclinder again completely at the first service just to make sure.
I asked them to check out the pads on the back wheel too, just in case the overheating had done some damage, but apparently it was OK.

As to ABS Frankie, no, you ain't got it.
I thought for one moment that they had slipped up and sent me an ABS model when I spotted the serrated disk on the front, but when I checked this out, it turned out to be the speedo sensor. To be honest, I don't think the brakes are grippy enough to lock the wheels at any sort of speed anyway! It's never locked on me anyway.

I was lead to believe that we do have tyre pressure management though, but I'm beginning to doubt that too.
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: TANWare on August 03, 2011, 12:21:22 PM
No TPM unfortunately. The ABS is not so much for the dry but when it is wet out or oil slicks etc. Wouldn't want to be doing 55 MPH or close to hydroplaning speed and have the front lock up either.
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: SpikeOne on August 03, 2011, 01:59:38 PM
It doesn't bother me.
I've been riding bikes of one sort or another for 40 years and never had ABS so don't miss it.
I'm told that it's not much cop, except in a straight line anyway, and that's usually when you don't need it.
As to the TPM - a swift kick in the rear end is as good a way as any to tell whether the air's about right, if you haven't npoticed a bit of instability already.

To be honest, I can count on the fingers of two hands the number of maxi-scooters that I have seen around my county, and I've never seen another Downtown anywhere...

yet to run across anoth DT, then again they are new here. I run across maxi scoots now and then. Usually 400's or above and of the three major brand bikes from Japan. Occasionally the 250 Reflex too.

I have run across a few smaller as well but of course always around town with them...................

i now am the owner of the new downtown 300i.....completed paperwork today with dealer....and i am awaiting lic/reg and prep...if all goes according to plan i should have the scooter by early next week....

the scooter is essentially the same as the 2011 but the rear view mirrors have built in led directionals ....i dont know actually don't think there is any change  in rear lighting,,,,,the under seat storage is a little smaller than i anticipated so in due time i will probably go for a top box....my main concern was the fit and feel of it...at six feet , 30 inch inseam i had no problem with my feet touching the ground ....the position seating was different than what i was use to on my other scooter..which you have to ride almost on a 90 degree angel...on this feels almost like a bike.....worth the wait!

thanks tanware...i may need to get back to you(if you don' mind) at some point once i get comfortable riding it and when ready to do a few mods to it.....do you have the shop manual for it/

The manual has been provided in the links. Mods I am not too sure of, though I ahve done a few mild changes.

1.) headlights to PIAA's provided for slightly better attention by other drivers and slightly better night time vision.
2.) LED tail and turn provides much for much better atttention from other drivers behind you both for day and night.
3.) Royal Purple in the engine and FD for me works very well.
4.) the CR7EIX plug works just awesome, mid range responce to me improved greatly.
5.) 20x12 14 GR sliders really change the bikes performance for the better, It is akin to finding out your auto trans was stuck in a econo mode but find that magical button that can change it to performance mode.

personally to em it is a bit too high of a perfomane mode and I may go with 15GR 20x12 sliders in the future. For now though I am happy..........
Title: Re: New DT300i owner.
Post by: roboscoot on August 18, 2011, 04:53:54 PM
thanks tanware...once i get accustomed to the scooter,,,i will take a closer look at these....will do the royal purple first (first oil change).....and the plug....looks like irredium (no need to gap) plug....and than the tail lights....i will hold off on sliders....for a while as i want to see how the scooter runs as is....and if it meets my performance needs ....as i am semi retired i don't do as much commuter riding as i use to,,,i probably do about 80 % in town/town hopping locally and about 20 %....touring.....which is when i would really need upper end throttle /power ....i was a little dis-appointed at the space under the seat....enough for my groceries i guess...but will probably need a top box at some point....

i always appreciate your input and willingness to share information....thanks again...bob

Under seat I find about 3 plastic shopping bags of smaller loose items fit well. I can only fit one of my XL open of full face helmets in the rear compartment though. A top box is a definate need IMHO. Just wish I could make up my mind as to which one I want.

If you are as I am at 242 LBS or plan to do two up etc at say 300 LBS plus I highly recomend the sliders. It gets rid of the slow speed econo-mode of the engine lugging around. I only did the video of 0-60 for demostration of the enhanced capability, I haven't since done any WOT take offs or rolling accelerations.

Hi Kibitzer, any way you can get to northern Floridia with a pickup?  I am selling a 7 month old 2011, orange, DT300i with Givi windshield and a 45L box plus a Airhawk seat.  It has approx 4,500 miles on it.  You could save  a couple of thousand dollars.  Is there any difference between the US models and Can?  Check it out on www.cycletrader.com (http://www.cycletrader.com).  It's in zip code 32136.  Also comes with a cover and two helmets.

Hi Chris.  where you picked yours up?

Welcome kibitzer,

Got mine at www.studiocyclegroup.com (http://www.studiocyclegroup.com)
Very pleased with the purchase and service.
Check-out the www.meetup.com/toronto-moto-scooter-club (http://www.meetup.com/toronto-moto-scooter-club) for a wealth on info.

Am very pleased with the DT300i. It's just getting too cold for my liking now and with the salt on the road; will store it until the spring.
But when you're 'in town' you might still enjoy the ride.
I see still lots of scooters downtown TO.

Have Fun!
