It is a rare case but I have blown it between an exhaust port and a coolant passage

Hey Doc.  Price for a new fully assembled head with valves and all installed is $332 on Stadium Yamaha's website.  That may be a bit off since I think their list is old but hey, yours can't be too much more.   Plus shipping, of course.   If it's the head, why not replace it rather than part out?  Try Jenny for a price.

Checked my head again last night CAN NOT find anything wrong other then a blown gasket due to improper torquing of the head TWICE so I am buying another head gasket and going back together and hope for the best. If you need any tips on getting that engine out I am your guy

Yeah! What he said. I would pull the cylinder to check the rings. You may have "caught them" in the groves as a side effect from running lean. If they float freely fine. If they are bound get a new piston/rings Doc!

Pretty sure he sold it for salvage.  I have an idea it's the one parting out on ebay.

Thanks Hoo! I noticed the date as I pushed POST. Wanna laugh... Check out my threads under the general section labeled Ethanol... Don't waste time following the links unless you want to but the read is GREAT! There are two separate threads there. The most fun I've had here in quite awhile.

Oh I've been reading those threads alright.  ;D  I agree with YOU on all that.  Especially liked the Best ever quote about Democrats!  I use my Startron every tankful.  I believe the marine industry would know better than anyone about this stuff.  My local MC repair shop guys have told me they dump the gas out of any bike that comes in with any kind of running/starting probs before even trying to diagnose.  Replace with good gas with Startron in it.

I actually tried to embed my favorite line about Republicans but couldn't get the youtube to embed.  It's from the Clint Eastwood movie, "Kelly's Heros".  Don Rickles has a line toward the end but you really got to watch the whole movie to appreciate it.  Excellent movie.

Does anyone know how many miles he had on the bike when it blew? Also, I am thinking of getting one of those DNA (K&N) style air filters? What main jet size does anyone recommend? I also have a Leo Vince exhaust on my carbed 2007. Should I go up one jet size, or two? :-*

Great post Munks! Thanks Hoo! It is easy for ME to forget what applies to the less expensive (smaller cc) engines is a LOT more of a hit in the wallet for the bigger engines. I've blown up ALOT of parts. That's the fat side of the learning curve.
It's true... a picture says a thousand words.    Links say it all sometimes...
