Has anyone replaced the rear tire by themself? If so, is it difficult? Any special tools? I am installling a Michellin City Grip 150-70/14. The Maxxis is down to the threads at about 4,500 miles.

I take the wheel off of mine and take it to a shop which changes the tire for me. To do it you'll need a nice big half inch breaker bar and socket to fit the rear axle nut. Also the usual metric sockets and extensions. A metric allen wrench to fit the exaust clamp.
The rear axle nut is on extremely tight on most of these. I had to lock the rear brake with the parking brake with scooter on side stand -- then actually stand on and jump on the breaker bar to get the nut broke loose.
You'll need to remove the seat and under seat box in order to swing the shock absorber up out of the way. Once the under seat box is loose, lift it partially and unplug the connector to the phone charger. I had a heck of a time doing that -- used a little jewler's screwdriver. Someone might know if there's an easier way to disconnect it -- I don't. The courtesy light will just pull out the back of it's place, bulb, wires and all so no need to unplug it's connector.
Edit: Come to think of it, you may not need to disconnect either of those. Just take out all screws and nuts holding the underseat box and you should be able to swing the shock up. Just push the box up with the shock and let it stay like that while you get the wheel off.

Thanks Hoolander!
You were pretty much right on with what had to be done. Took me about 2 hours with the help of my nephew. We did the tire ourselves and it is balanced without taking for balancing. Got a Michelin City Grip. Let's see how long it lasts.

I got my rear wheel off/on for a new tire without doing anything under the seat.

Excellent, grouchysmurf! I must remember to try that next time!

you can remove the tires without removing the seat. Btw it is easier if you deflate the tire before removing it so you'll have more clearance from the shocks.
I just bring mine to a shop near by. Just costs $2 with tip and $3 for the balancing with nitrogen.

I don't enjoy doing tires, but I do them anyway. I just HATE paying people to do anything. Except haircuts. I do pay for haircuts. Usually. ;)
