Title: New pics of my XC500 and repainted garage =)
Post by: ChandlerScoot on February 07, 2012, 01:03:17 AM
I've posted this on another forum as well (Maxi-Scoots)

Okay, I've been extremely busy with work, the house and life in general. Somehow, I managed to find time to repair several drywall cracks in the garage, interior of the house and the patio ceiling. I've been working late every night for the last three weeks and finally, I've completed the garage. Aside from the drywall repairs, I added 24 mini LED recessed can lights, and painted the whole thing. It's a massive space and painting is not one of my favorite things to do. So with the garage ceiling and walls under repair and dust flying everywhere, I had to find a place for the bike. My TR6 was out getting some calibration done so that left me with some more room to work with. The rear patio was a mess of work and with that said, the only place my bike could reside was back in the house! I've got a really awesome wife who in fact even had the cleaning ladies "dust" the bike as if it were another piece of furniture! LOL

Today marks the move in of all the displaced stuff including the bike and so I share some really cool photos I took with my Canon 60D.

I also received the headlight module from Germany (A month later) and installed it as well. This is what the front of the bike should look like! I want to thank Hoolander for the idea  :2tu:

I removed the model identifier stickers as they were already coming off the sides and stuck the "R" on the rear.

My patio is still under construction. When I say I'm serious about quality, you can see how I scraped off all of the joints as they were cracking. I filled them with Liquid nails adhesive and bonded the flexing joints as one. It will never crack again! I am working on this this evening as well. Got two coats of mud on it already  Very Happy

Regarding the windshield, I had no idea it was on the lower mounting. Thanks for pointing it out a while back and you get the credit for that one! I am still awaiting the ER Max screen.

I never ride in the rain and out here, the weather is generally dry. I keep it waxed often and it is so easy to maintain. I paid about $151 for the headlight delivered. Took about a month to get it. I am sure it sat in Customs until someone decided to send it off to me...

There's that nice red Xciting cozying up with the living room furniture again.  Looks super as usual, Chandler.  I'm thinking I'm gonna get yellow leds for the position lights too. (since I can't use my blue ones.  >:()  Chandler, what do you think of the headlight beams?  High?  Low?  I'm finding the low beam is perhaps not as high as our USA versions.  It's got a sort of darked out area in the upper left quadrant.  Guess that's a Euro thing. Thinking of adjusting it up a little.

Thanks, but I'm not the first to talk about or get one of these light modules.  think it was discussed several times here in the past.  It just gnawed at me till I had to do it.  ;)

Aside from looking at it in my garage, I do notice a slight shadow effect on the upper left side of the lamp as it is directed at my garage door. I think they have it that way to prevent other drivers from being blinded. have not yet ridden around at night to see nor have I played with the high beam. I will say that the headlight assembly does have the DOT and SAE markings on it. It must have met US standards somehow. If the lamp does shine closer to the road, i will most likely leave it be and instead go for a brighter headlamp. The amber LED's look much better from a slight distance than they do up close. Either way, i am really satisfied with the whole shebang.

Hoo, I did play around with the headlight aim. It took a few turns of the adjustment screw to bring it up some. I think it will greatly help at night as these things are probably never "tuned" right from the get go.

I am going to to to Cyclegear tomorrow and pick up a Philips MotoVision headlight bulb. It is supposedly 40% brighter and casts an orange glow in the headlight bucket to make your bike stand out from the crowd. It may cause a dozing driver to wonder what the heck it is coming towards them before they make a left turn!

Here's another headlight shot with the amber LED's

Dude - someone broke into your garage and stole all of your stuff!  Seriously though - it looks really cool.  Who did you order your headlight reflector from in Germany?  I waited too long to get one from the guy on eBay.

I also liked moving the R.  The 500Ri's on the front cowling came off mine during our 10 days of 114+ temperatures.  I'm not fond of the ones on the sides - and my daughter has caught her pants on them a couple of times - so on the next warm day I'll get out the hot air gun and pull them off.
