Hello all!
I have a 2012 Xciting 500ri w/abs and would like to replace the windscreen with a larger one.
I have in mind the givi model but don't know how to remove the factory winscreen. I took out the 4 bolts that hold the smoked one on and stopped there. I didn't want to break or force anything.
Once the bolts are out, does it just slide down or is there something I'm missing?
Any help would be appreciated.
By the way, that sucker rattles at a little above idle. Is that normal? It seems to me that it shouldn't.

There's a vibration on mine at a certain rev too but doesn't amount to a rattle.
Take the 4 bolts out then the black plastic piece comes off. Pry a little at the points where the outside arms terminate -- there are locking tabs there. Use something that won't mar plastic like a stiff plastic spatula or similar. Mine usually pops loose with finger prying.
Then you'll see four more bolts to take out and the windshield will come off. You'll then notice the windshield carrier is held by four more bolts. A nice feature is the carrier can be taken off and remounted in a different position if you so choose.
I mounted my Givi in the lower position because it was rediculously tall in the upper one. Also wouldn't fit under my shed door otherwise. :-)

Rattle is more like it. Thanks for the imfo. :)

Howdy desliderman....
I was interested in your rattle comment. I have a 2007 X500 carb....and it really has a significant vibration/shimmy at lower speed/rpm.
When I get to about 30 mph...it smoothes out a good bit. I have a Honda ST1100 that is smooth as silk and this vibration issue is taking
some getting used to. I understand the engine is so much different, but still....it's a little more than I was expecting. When I drop the speed down
for a turn and throttle back up -- at times it really rattles. I'll be interested in what others tell you here.

My windscreen rattles slightly between the outer "W" plastic frame and the screen itself at low throttle. A piece of foam weather stripping sandwiched in between would help. I've been too busy to futz with it for now.

I wonder if the GIVI windscreen will do the same? Considering this is Kymco's top of the line scooter, I expected a little more from them.
I have a SYM RV250 and there are times it's so quiet / smooth I wonder if it didn't die on me.
Thanks again.

One of these years we in the USA might get the re-designed Xcitings like the rest of the world gets now. Completely re-designed windshield. But who knows if it's any better.
Believe it or not, my GIVI seems to vibrate less than the stock windshield. Maybe cause it's made of a thinner material? Don't know.
One thing to try is check your idle speed. I think if it's too low you could get more vibration. Think 1400rpm plus or minus 500rpm is manual spec.

Here in Croatia we won't even get the redesigned ones this year because of the new XC400 that's a complete
redesign once again.

I put some 1/4" self adhesive foam weatherstripping under mine and it cured the rattle. I may have been able to just get it perfectly aligned (it started the first time I removed and replaced the windshield) - but I had the weatherstripping in front of me and it was easier than messing with it.

My 2007 does not have this problem? ???

I was told by Kymco Canada that we will get the redesigned 500 for the 2013 model year.

Just in time when they introduced yet another redesign in the 2012 XC 400i ;D
-
I thought we would get the 400 & not a new 500? Any info on it? And what about the 700? :-*
-
Kymco Canada said they had no official word yet on the 700i and that we would NOT be getting the 400 just the updated 500 for 2013.

You can get what ever your importer decides to get, it's up to them. ;D

Kind of makes sence as why would we need a 300, 400 and a 500?
