Title: How long does it take to get a starter?
Post by: bandit on July 24, 2012, 02:50:07 AM
I have a 09 people s 250 with a starter that went out. The only reason I took it to the dealer because it was under warranty. They told me the starter was on back order. I am getting a little frustrated because it's been at the dealer for almost a month! >:( Has anyone else have this problem with Getting parts?

Spare parts, be it a car, truck or bike... it's either on stock or not....

Defective starters are not common, so most probably, the dealer don't keep them in stock and order only when needed.  Also, most probably, you're starter is shipped together with other parts the dealer ordered from the source. Maybe you can have it prioritized and have it flown via air, but you have to pay. Shipments via sea takes months. Almost a month is a short time.... ;)

My dealer gets parts fron Kymco USA in 3 to 5 days. Like what was said. The starter is an item that usually does not fail so Kymco USA might not have had one in stock and had to get it from Taiwan.

Try getting something from Piaggio and see not only how long it takes to get it but also the price.

A friend of mine had a piaggio mp3 500 in the shop for 3 months waiting for parts last year.

Finally got my scooter back. It took 9 weeks. The dealer was great, they always kept me updated by contacting me once a week to let me know what's going on. I know the owner and the mechanic on a first name basis now.
