Title: died out on the road
Post by: zombie on May 31, 2009, 09:10:08 PM: after loseing 3 cdi boxes in the past year i thought it was another. i found you can order custom cdi's from Suitai dirrectly (custom programed) to your specs. (cheaper than the so called race units on the net). i installed it and found i still have insufficant spark (i can hold the high tension lead, and it feels like a 9 volt batt. on your tounge). the only parts left are the stator assem. and the coil. does anyone KNOW the resistance values of good patrs to trouble shoot mine. Post by: zombie on July 15, 2009, 02:48:07 AM: thanks shaka, Its been awhile since i fooled w/ it. installed a new cdi, new coil, and had weak spark. installed a used stator, and get excl. spark, but no start. the plug is getting fuel, i feel like chubbyrockstar. no sense to this one. gonna look at the crank seal under the variator. one day all is well, the next gets shot to hell! I will post when i figure this one out

..mine did..my drive belt broke....luckily, I was less than 2 miles from home...the previous day...I was 55 miles from home at one point...

Post by: Shaka on July 18, 2009, 01:13:15 AM: If you have a volt meter you can just take the regulator out and test it. I just replaced mine, again. The brand new one I got didn't quite test to the specs I have in the service manual, but it was a lot closer. I could look it up and post it if you'd like?

Post by: Shaka on July 21, 2009, 01:01:05 AM: Ok, so i'm having to use my phone so i can't copy the cool little table. I'll try and explain it. The positive on the bottom left and the neg on the top left should be between 3 and 10 ohms. Either polarity on the top and bottom right should be between 33 and 35 ohms. Like i said before even my new one didn't quite measure 33-35, i think it was 28. My bad ones were in the teens though! Hope this helps!

Post by: Shaka on July 21, 2009, 06:48:42 PM: The regulator is the rectifier. It's under the front panel. A little square box with cooling fins and a 4 wire connector. There are also resistors next to it. I replaced those too. Although i don't think those in bad very often.

Post by: zombie on July 22, 2009, 01:35:00 AM: You know shaka, I thought the regulator was ONLY for chargeing the batt. I've had other bikes w/ bad regulators, and continued to run them. I'm not doubting you, just trying to figure how... I haven't looked at it yet for the restistance check, but will try to get to it tomorrow. It would sure be nice to get it running as I am currently riding a '78 honda express. Cool little bike but I miss my scoot. Thanks for the help Bro.

Post by: Shaka on July 22, 2009, 05:55:29 PM: The regulator is the rectifier. My understanding is that it controls the voltage to the whole bike! I know that when my first one was going out my headlight would randomly get really bright, till it blew! It seemed as he the ignition would randomly cut out also. Especially at cruising speed. I also think i read somewhere that it converts the ac current from the generator to usable dc. Could be wrong on that, but it makes sense that the pulser coil creates ac current.

I'm not sure, so I went ahead and ordered a regulator from an ebay site. was only $17.35. Man I sure hope this is the ticket. You know how sometimes you don't even want to look at something anymore? I keep the scoot under a cover in the shop where I work. I'll post the result. Ps It was at cruising speed that I died out. Just like pulling the plug wire. Thank goodness these parts are affordable!

Post by: zombie on July 25, 2009, 08:14:24 PM: Ok, I pulled the regulator,had 40 ohms on the top/bottom left pins, Had 3.5 or the right. when you reverse polarity on the left side you will read infinate which shows there is a working diode. the new unit I ordered should arrive wend., or thurs. Forgot to mention the right side is reading as a shorted diode. Thanks.
