check and clean the carb as if it has been stood there may be dirt in the carb. there is an idle jet for tick over which seems fine if on tick over but to full throttle it has another jet. if that one has dirt in then that could be the problem.

Your zx has a centrifugal clutch as part of the transmission . Did you ever get it running better ?

Did you get all the old gas out of the tank? It sounds like it could be a few things but bad gas is first thing Id check out, then for air leaks, or worse loose carb. Itll be simple and I wouldnt think a new cylinder would be needed at 2000 KM, its like 1200 miles.

A new cylinder head sounds like throwing parts at a problem until it goes away. Real expensive and rarely fixes the problem. Start a systematic approach to eliminating possible causes. Start with cleaning the carb and fuel tank/lines and then call us for the next step.

I agree, diagnose first. A compression test is the first thing to do before you start replacing parts. Hell, you can even borrow a compression tester from Auto Zone for free.

He's probably sold it. I would have cleaned and gapped the plug, cleaned the carb out and put fresh fuel in, checked the mixture, washed the air filter and cleaned the box out, then checked for any nipped or damaged fuel lines/ breathers/ vacuum hoses.

From there, a compression test, exhaust check etc. but that's just years of experience.

His bike probably has no two stroke oil in it!

I sold a 1959 SAAB GT750 car to a guy in LA in the late '60s. This little sporty front wheel drive two-door was well-sorted out by yours truly and came with a full set of written instructions on the operation, care and feeding. Two weeks later this pin-head calls me up and says it is not running well. I load up my tool bag and head to his location to confirm this problem. I get there and both ends have been smashed in, driving lights mere shells and other indications of abuse. It started and ran but roughly. Pulling the center plug (three cylinder, two-stroke) revealed a hole in the center piston. Pin-head tells me he has been using cheap gas since it was an "economy car". My instructions stated to use the highest octane available since it was a high compression engine (10.5:1) and would not work properly on low octane gas. Pin-head never got it as he was convinced it was an "economy car". I told him "tough. My guarantee was void since he did not follow instructions. Your years of experience match mine and I don't think elyk gets it.

Notice I did not call any names.....

Yeah! 48 hp from 45 cubic inches on an 1800 lb car. Would verily scream once wound up......I even put metallic linings in the otherwise useless drum brakes: would stop repeatedly with no fade!
