When I don't use my moped for a few hours I can't start it with the electric start sometimes. This forces me to have to kickstart it. Once I kickstart it however and turn it off, I can electronically start it again with no problem. I've also noticed that the first 2 seconds of riding start off real sluggish sometimes and others it just takes off well. Anyone have any ideas on what may be the problem? Everything else works fine. I have a 2004 kymco zx50.

Also where/what can I do to replace these side panels? Any reccomended sites? They don't have to be OEM I just want it to not be an eyesore

The battery is probably bad. They last only 2 or 3 years usually.
I would take the battery out of the scooter.
Check to see if it needs electrolyte (if it has the 6 stoppers for filling)
Charge it fully at 2 amp or lower (overnight)
Have it tested under load at an auto parts store (free)
Or if it is really old, bypass the above and Order a new battery (AGM type) (about $55)

scoot safely,
Thanks Mary K, I'll look into it, the battery is about 2 olds too. I also discovered another issue today, I found this dangling next to my muffler today.

Upon further inspection, I found a wire is cut??

Anyone have an idea what this is?
I plan on opening up my moped and cleaning everything really well one of these upcoming days. For now I just tucked that under the panels.
I bought this moped 2nd hand for relatively cheap, and I've never owned a moped so my apologies if I come off rather noob haha.
Also, some idiot knocked over all the mopeds outside (mine including) and the left mirror won't stay in place now. I can put it in, but it won't be firm (it remains loose, able to be rotated very easily). Anyone have a solution to help keep the mirror in firm?
I'll show you what I mean:

Thanks in ahead to anyone that can help resolve my question(s)!

Mirrors usually have a set of male threads which screw into the female threads of the mounting base.
And there is a nut on those mail threads... it may be elongated and look cone-like.
Screw in the mirror until it is in the correct position but not totally tight. Then tighten the nut to lock the mirror into position.
You will need a wrench for that.
No help on the dangling piece. Any printing on it ?
A manual may help:

Look on EBay for parts including body parts. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=kymco+zx50&rt=nc&_dmd=2 (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=kymco+zx50&rt=nc&_dmd=2)

Looks like the female threasd are stripped. I have repaired with JB Weld. fill the bad threads, then drill out with proper drill, rethread with 8x1.25mm tap

Im still running the original Kymco battery in one of my 03 zx50s.

It could be the battery is weak, or you could just need to clean the starter bendix.

The dangling piece is your cdi, theres a sleeve for it just above where its dangling from. The green wire that is cut is the cdi derestrict mod. It allows the engine to achieve a higher rpm with no rev limit.
-
That piece that you are searching for is called the belly pan, its around 80$ from stadiumyamaha I believe. It is one whole piece not 2 separate sides.

Thanks, I had an idea that might have been the case, but this provides clarity.
