Title: What is higest milage P250 or P250S
Post by: kawzak on August 01, 2009, 10:19:41 PM
What is higest mileage P250 or P250S -and what problems if any did you have at what milage? Please include year model, and what you think the cost of maintenance per year to be. Thanks for any replys. Also does any one know of any Kymco "around the world scooters" or info?

4500 kms so far since February and no problems except that recently suspension and steering have started producing squealing noises. Probably the grease is washed away during miniwash sessions and needs to be lubed.

The biggest reason why I would NEVER recommend P250S to somebody heavier than 60 kgs are severe problems with bottoming out rear suspension. Even Agility does not have such problems. Driving a passenger anywhere except on absolutely flat surface without any potholes is virtually impossible.

I am very disappointed with P250S in that regard and would NEVER buy if I knew about this.

First strong negative comment I have seen on 250S - mine will be in next week and I am heavy - 240 lbs, not sure what that is in k's.  I am hoping the bottoming out you speak of is not too much of a factor - most roads I ride are fairly smooth and I don't get much in speed (35 to 50 mph).  Bummer!

Yes, I know.
I've never heard of it either until I purchased it and experienced it myself.

Furthermore, I've had such issue only with worn out rear shock on old Piaggio NRG50, with passenger, before replacing it!
This is right out dangerous issue.

Furthermore, due to the same reason, poor rear suspension, People 250S tends to widen the trajectory through curve when cornering with passenger or fully loaded at high speed. VERY VERY DANGEROUS.

It is strange that nobody has addressed this issue. I guess, no offense, that most people do not exactly ride their scooters *hard*, or do not have that kind of sensitivity/experience to notice such issues.

However, I must add - I weigh 230 lbs, and when I am riding alone, I notice that issue but not that much. If somebody weighs less than 180 and never rides with a passenger, it is likely (s)he will never notice that problem.

Too bad, because in other respects People 250S is a great scooter and can be purchased at a great discount price. Also, it is one of the fastest 250s out there.

I weight about 220 lbs. I keep my shock on the 2nd (softest) setting. I dont seem to have too much of a problem, and most of my riding is 50-65 mph. Roads are usually Farm-market, ranch and state secondary roads. Many are not the best with some pot holes, many dips, errosion, etc. I keep my tires at 28 PSI. so that may help. Any way mine doesnt seem to bottom out very much. but I have not had a passanger on it either, and if I did I would probably slow down MORE before bad dips, erroded asphalt, pot holes and the like. A scooter is not a dual-sport. smaller wheels and tires take harder hits. However you can go wherever you want, just use your head, and anticipate the road conditions.

You must have gotten a fluke.  I keep mine set on the stiffest setting because I ride 2 up on the weekends with a combined rider weight of about 350.  I have only bottomed out on a deep pothole with 2 up.  If I'm riding by myself with the topcase on ~200lbs, I can give it hell all day long without bottoming out.  Even by myself on the softest setting I wouldnt bottom out.  It has never really been a problem for me riding 2 .up

 ;D

Recently I have noticed that at least two things are squealing on People. (it has 4400 kms now)

a) The first is somewhere around steering wheel, high pitched noise. It is possible that for some reason steering bearing needs more lube, however, I am vary of disassembly of the steering because it is quite complicated due to excessive Tupperware all around

b) The second is somewhere around suspension and reminds me of similar sound I experienced this winter on my Piaggio Beverly 200 that turned out to be the engine mount bearing assembly gone bad (it set me back for 100 US$ at the time). However the hanging of the engine is different on People than on Beverly and there is nothing to be greased there.

I guess I will wait - the next inspection is at 6000 kms. The only problem is that the scooter sounds like I am driving 40 years old rikshaw.

I have also noticed rusting around end points of shock absorbers after only 6 months.

Furthermore, these shocks are obviously weak point as on my Agility (18 months old) the spring is severely rusty and does not look nice (the shock itself is fully functional though after 11.000 kms).

Well I have never had any problems of grounding out at 240 lbs.
I scraped the side stand on the Blue Ridge Parkway
if that counts as grounding out. LOL. My 2006 has 40,868 km
on her as of this morning.
