Super 8 / Putting a road tire on the 50X
« on: June 20, 2016, 04:21:35 PM »
Has anyone ever swapped out the tires on the 50X from the stock dual purpose tread to a street only tread? If so, have you noticed a difference in performance and speed? The dual purpose tires are nice, but I rarely do any dirt or off road, and they do hum quite a bit on your smoother asphalt. Was wondering if anyone made the switch to a road tire if they noticed a slight increase in speed or any other performance differences

You can put in lighter rollers on your variator. Fairly cheap and pretty easy.

I did that on my wife's Metropolitan and it made a noticeable improvement. Nothing like adding a performance exhaust to a two stroke scooter, but you don't have that option.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion! I don't want to do too much to it because police around here are very strict on the moped going no faster than 30mph law. So I need to be careful, but just want a little more oomph

My Super 8 50x is past the "break in" stage and I disconnected one of the CDI cables to free up a little more top end speed, but I was just curious if there were any simple tricks to gain a little more oomph off the line at a dead stop. It's pretty sluggish to gain speed until it hits about 23mph or so and then it will climb to 31/32mph pretty quickly. I did the whole break in process according to the Kymco manual so the engine would break in better all around, but it still drives me nuts that it's so slow to start. Are there any quick tips/tricks to get more starting speed without modding the engine out a ton, or is this just the nature of the beast?

Technical | How To / Disconnecting both CDI restriction cables
« on: May 16, 2016, 02:42:51 PM »
So I was looking in the forum about derestricting the Super 8 50 and saw that you can disconnect one of the violet/red cables to disable the rev limiter, and now I have the really dumb question of "what if I disconnect the other one as well?" I looked in the forum about that, but they got into discussions about the clutch and other mods and the discussion of the wire ceased, so I figured I'd post in here and see if anyone disconnected both and noticed any difference? I disconnected one and my top speed went from 28mph to 33mph on flat, can probably hit 35mph with a tail wind on a slight downhill, was just wondering if disconnecting the second limiter cable would free up a little more mph? Sorry for the dumb question, I'm new to all of this. Thanks!!
