Technical | How To / Re: Diesel oil for a scooter?
« on: July 30, 2011, 07:06:20 PM »
Change the oil often (most of our scooters don't have oil filters).  These scooters require very little oil so it cannot be a cost factor, only a hassle factor.  As most scoots are air cooled the oil breaks down more quickly than in an engine that is water cooled.  If the scooter is new, run it for at least 1,500 miles, changing the oil twice as often as the manual says during this time. (The piston rings will need to "set").  After this "break in" period start using full synthetic oil.  If the spark plug appears to foul (sometimes happens), then switch to a blended synthetic oil.  Yes, synthetic oil is by far the best lubricant you can find.

I figured this out.  I changed the transmission oil (90wt) at 300 km.  The Kymco Dealer said to fill the transmission up to the weep hole (as you do in automobiles)
which was completely wrong.  The People 150 trasmission holds 180 cc of 90wt gear oil.  (180 cc is a weird "french" measurement which translates into 6.08 oz American)
At anyrate, if you fill to the weep hole that is approximately 12 oz which will blow through the vapor hose to the air filter and soak it.  Once I realized the problem corrected the transmission fill amounts, cleaned out the air box and washed the filter with gasoline (will get a new one soon) and that was that.  The scooter runs great.

Technical | How To / New People 150 with 350k will not rev past 35
« on: July 22, 2011, 01:15:39 AM »
I have a new People 150.  Today it will not rev past 25 - 35 mph.  If on the center stand, again, at about half throttle it bogs down. Is this the CDI?  Any ideas?
