Looks likeI've got a good 1/4 inch of the variator that doesn't show signs of wear so I think I can get a little moreout of it

Zx 50 only checked it once so far but it was 60. Scoot is derestricted and I run it wot pretty much all the time since that barely gets me to the speed limit.

Vega xt half helmet hi viz yellow. Nice and cool in the Florida heat and fits in the under seat storage. Seems a little bulky would probably get the xta model for the extra $20. Drawback is sometimes you get road grit hitting you in the face from the car in front of you.

Thanks for the insight. Maybe I just need to try some lighter rollers to see if that will get me were I want to be. The Dr Pulley sliders area little too pricey to buy a bunch of different sets

Technical | How To / Roller weight to slider weight conversion

Looked allover the internet and getting  lots of conflicting info. If I switch from standard roller weights to Dr Pulley slider weights should I increase, decrease, or keep the same weight as the stock 8.5 grams? I am running a derestricted 2005 zx 50 with no other mods. I would like to increase the top speed if possible but don't want to loose acceleration. Also, the rollers that are in there now have worn some flat spots in them, is that normal or is it a sign of a problem. Thanks

Thanks, got it running pretty good right now so probably won't do anything with it until I know I have a couple of days to work on it.

I think this may be what I'm looking for

Although reading on here it seems some have the restricted boss and some don't so I guess I just need to check. Is there a trick to getting the cover off? Iwas going to take a look the other day but it didn't want to come off easily after removing all the bolts and the kick start so I decided I should wait and do more research before opening a can of worms.

Thanks, sounds like I just need to get an unrestricted one don't really want to give up acceleration. Anyone know a good source for a close to stock boss or what length I should look for? Don't really want to take the thing apart just to measure it.

zx50 / Mods to get 5mph
« on: May 30, 2013, 02:27:52 AM »
Recently bought a 2005 zx 50 with 7300km on it. It runs 47mph on the speedo(42 on gps). Confirmed that the CDI has been spliced not sure what else has been done. Checked the pipe and didn't see anything that looked like a restiction. Not sure about the variator washer. The guy I bought it from was the original owner and definitely didn't do any work himself. Carb is clean, battery and plug are about 3 months old. With gear I weigh at  max 150 lbs.

So, I would like to get another 5 mph out of the scoot to keep the idiots from breathing down my neck in the 45 mph speed zones. The main reason I bought the bike was for commutes to work in the historic district so I could save on gas and parking so it needs to be reliable. Also don't want to spend more than $50. I'm a little nervous about shaving the boss down and don't have a bench grinder. Can it be done with an angle grinder, belt sander, or dremel? If I screw it up how much is a new one? Thanks in advance.

Got it back running. Not sure what the problem was but it is gone after a tear down and cleaning of the carb also set the air and idle screws per Naughty Lee's instructions.

MotoRandy you were right, the wires are spliced on the CDI.

Thanks, I'll have some time to get into it tomorrow and see how it goes. It was running fine, the problem started suddenly after going up and down a high bridge at full speed so maybe something did shake loose.

zx50 / New owner needs help
« on: May 28, 2013, 02:34:47 AM »
First off thanks for all the help I've found just reading this forum. I  bought a 2005 zx 50 about a week ago, seemed to be running fine at first. Then after coming over a high bridge the engine bogged down. I was able to drive a short distance farther to a gas station. After that it starts fine and idles ok but stalls when I give it gas.

Also, how do I know if I am restricted? Bike registers 47 mph on the speedo but 42.5 on gps. Would like to get 5 more mph out of it to keep up wih traffic where I live. Any help is appreciated.
