I talked to the rep for the state of florida.....they are aware of the wiring DEFECT and the cause can be the ecm or light controller , the dimmer switch the headlight bulb or bulbs themselves, a loose connection or dirty connection to any of these or a combination.  He said if 1 filament burns out in either bulb the entire lighting system goes out... :o

I asked if there is a bypass around the controller that wont blow fuses....Yes there is but Kymco cant give that info because the fed gov. has not approved it nor do they intend to have it approved because it would cost to much??

So I ask what do all of us do then.......He gave NO answer other than im sorry so many are having this problem and he will pass it on to his boss......??  At some point nearly ALL S8s will have this problem!!   Think about that before you buy one!

Bottom line, live with it, sell it or find someone that can rewire the damn things.    >:(

I started a thread on the general section, maybe someone from Kymco will read it and address the problem.  Pimpy add your info there, more people that complain the better!

Many super 8s have a problem with the lights and charging system read the headlight thread on the super 8 section.   This problem needs to be addressed and FIXED before someone is killed!!!!   >:(

A RECALL is needed not just a memo to dealers.  It is clear Kymco knows there is a problem why cant someone with knowledge get on this forum and explain the problem and what is required to fix it.

Anyone made these mods to their S8......what exhaust did you use.....did you change the main and pilot or shim the needle or all of the above? What jet sizes did you use?   Were the mods worth the time and money?

Any change to the exhaust has to be an improvement.....I had a guy ask me if that was an electric scooter. :o

Does a people 150 have a light controller like the super 8?  Will the CDI interchange between the two?

Skishades, that is my problem now I have no headlights...except at idle on the highbeam, nothing anytime when on low beam position or high beam once I start moving.  So you think this is an ecm problem and not the controller?

All I want is the high beam, could I run a separate ground wire directly to the frame and tap a Hot wire that does not run through the ecm and connect it to the head light.  This woud mean the light would be on when ever the key is switch on. My scoot charges the battery OK right now. It is the law here headlight must be on all the time.

My lights both of them are on at idle and both go off when the bike revs....Kinda reverse of what should happen.

Vivo or Nori, is there an English link on how to bypass the light controller?  Why cant you just tap one of the suppy power wires directly to one of the headlights?  Which headlight is the high beam?

It has 1100 miles, I agree about over filling the diff.  im an old farmer and .18 liter of oil seems crazy!!  NORMAL rear gears you fill an inch or so below or until it flows out the fill hole.  This one would probably hold a quart if you did that.  In any case im leaving the extra 50cc in there.

My S8 has a noticeable gear whine from 20-32 mph is this normal?  I changed the gear oil small amount in there.... and it was dark.  Added 50cc over spec when I refilled no change still makes noise. I rode a people 150 and did not here this.

Vivo, what brand of tire are you using? The stock cst tires on mine are crap....way out of round and balance!!  Im running 20 lbs of air still rough.  Found a pair of Shinkos, for 100 shipped.  I have used Shinkos on a couple of motorcycles with good results.

I might try a pair of TaoTao shocks to see if the ride is better......

Changing the springs in front forks will give a far better ride, I have used progressive fork springs in several motorcycles.

General Discussion / Shinko Tires.

Any one running shinko 567 or 568 series tires? The stock tires on my scoot are way out of round and balance......they need to be replaced. The front took 5 oz of weight....and still shakes..it is splitting down the middle also.  1200 miles on em. Not good.

I don't want to spend 150 bucks for 2 scooter tires either......who sells tires cheap?
