Got a new battery installed yesterday, starter button works, but starter solenoid just clicks if you push it.  Jumped the starter solenoid and sure enough it fired right up.  Ordered a replacement off ebay for 10 bucks and should be good to go.

I bought a replacement headlight bulb since my low beam seemed to burn out (possibly due to riding with such a dead battery).  I'm toying with the idea of adding another headlight and was looking at this light.  I know I've seen some people who have added similar lights, anyone have any advice?

I assume I would need to wire this straight off the battery.  Also I will probably look into replacing the rear brake light with an LED to reduce the load.

Yep, sure enough the speedo works just fine when moving, duh.

As for the battery I picked up a voltmeter and confirmed it is shot, so I just ordered a new one.

I tried something with the starter button, I jumped my scooter using my car, which gave the battery the normal amount of power (around 12.5Volts) then tried to use the push button start, which still didn't work.  I was holding the breaks, had the kickstand up, so I'm not sure why it still wouldn't get the starter motor to do anything (no clicks, no nothing).

I then jumped the starter solenoid with the car battery still connected to my old worn out battery, which started the scooter right up with a nice healthy spin from the starter motor.  Once I had the scooter running, I pushed the starter button and could then hear the starter motor clicking.  Why would it now make the motor click, but not before, even when connected to the car battery?  I'm starting to wonder if my starter solenoid needs replaced too.

For now I'll wait until the new battery arrives, try that and then go from there.

Well I just went out for the first test ride.  It handled great and accelerated pretty smooth up into the mid range area where it seemed a bit flat, so I'll probably give the carb a good cleaning here soon.

The speedo was in fact working just fine so that is no longer an issue :)

The electric start still does not work, although I jumped the solenoid and the second I did so the starter motor weakly spun a couple times and then stopped.  Any insight?  I was thinking about using my car battery (with the car off) to jump the scooter battery and see if that gets it going?

Hello,

I posted a couple months back about possibly buying a scooter, which I ended up passing on simply because it was too far away to make the buy worthwhile.  I found another one a guy was selling nearby that needed to go ASAP and got a deal I couldn't pass up.  It's a 2007 that he bought new, but had been sitting for 4 years so I assumed it would need a bit of work, but at 400 bucks for the scooter, metal loading ramp, and cover I figured I would give it a shot.

Once I got it home I charged up the battery and cleaned it up.  All electronics seem to work just fine, with the exception of the electric starter, which I cannot get to do anything at all (no noises, no engaging, nothing).  I can kick start it just fine and it runs with everything working, it's just the electric start won't work.

Also, I noticed the speedo wasn't going up with the RPMs, however I never took it out for a test run since the tires were low on air and I need to pump them up first.  Could that just be because it's up on the kickstand or could that be related to the electric start not working as well?

I tried doing a little searching first, but I didn't really find much.  I should get the tires pumped up tonight and take it out for a spin, so I'll know if the speedo works for sure later.   I was wondering if maybe the electric start isn't working just because the battery is so old/worn out?  Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

I think I'm going to purchase this scooter tomorrow:

I was wondering what you guys thought of it on here.  What would you pay?  Do you think I should avoid it like the plague or try for a deal because of the starting issue?  I have decent mechanical abilities and don't mind turning a wrench, but am I barking up the wrong tree with this?  The owner told me it has been to a couple mechanics who couldn't solve the problem, but I'm not sure what they replaced.  The scooter turns over, just doesn't fire.  Could it really be that it has no compression or is it likely something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
