People 50 / engine revving without throttle
« on: March 15, 2016, 11:26:03 PM »
2001 Kymco People 50 2t

so i spent the last night in the garage tearing into my people because i wanted to get into the cylinder and see how it works and also clean it of carbon/replace the gaskets... i did cut my own gaskets so keep that in mind

everything went good (i thought) because when i went to kick it, it started up first kick like a charm. everything sounded great and it was idling way better than before i took the cylinder apart

then i leaned it forward off the center stand and as soon as the rear wheel hits the ground, the engine starts revving without the throttle being applied and the machine starts racing forward.

way too tired to try and fix it now, so i thought i'd post while i let my ideas on fixing it gather.. im 90% sure that it has to do with the throttle cable so thats where i'm looking first.. if yal have any input that would be awesome

this was my first time doing something like this and i wanna be able to come out feeling good about it

People 50 / carb and vacuum lines
« on: July 15, 2015, 06:17:00 PM »
so im having trouble starting my 2t people 50 after removing and cleaning the carb to install bigger jets.. im almost positive its because the carb isn't getting any gas.. when i open the drain screw at the bottom of the carb, no gas comes out.. i can take the fuel line off the carb and manually apply a vacuum to the vacuum line to get fuel to flow extremely well from the fuel line.. but when i put the fuel line back on and then suck on the vacuum line again, im positive no gas is going into the carb bc even with the drain screw open, no gas flows out.. what can i do to fix this?? ive cleaned the fuel input hole on the carb twice now..

ok update - i changed the jets out the stock ones today and realized that the throttle cable/valve thing on thats on top of the carb wasn't slid in all the way, which i know corrected..

the scooter will start now with the help of some starter fluid, but cant hold the idle and will die.. trying to keep the revs up by giving it some throttle doesnt help either.. i am know curious about the auto bystarter or auto choke, or whatever people call it, is installed properly since i unscrwed the plate that holds it down to take off the carb.. also the tiny washer that fell out of the carb is unsettling too...

any words of wisdom???

I do know a little about engines tho.
thats what im counting on bc i need some more advice..

installed my technigas next r pipe today and it runs great with it, got a nice little bit of performance from replacing the gunked up stock pipe..

i then removed the carb, hit it with carb cleaner, and reassembled it (minus a tiny washer that would fit on the tip of a pen bc i couldn't figure out where it came from) with a 85 main jet and 45 slow jet.. +10 in size on each from the originals which were 75 and 35.. the plan was to back them down until i got a good spark plug reading and it felt/sounded right..

went to start it up.. but it wont.. using the electric starter or the kickstarter will cause the scoot to come on but then proceed to rev extremely high and then shut off.. no throttle is being applied when it revs out it just does it on its own.. any help?? im gonna put the 75 and 35 size jets back on tomorrow to see if that gets it started

yeah im not sure about the 2002 exhaust (i have a 2001), but it might be gunked up with carbon bc its so old as well. i know mine is, another reason to get an after market exhaust haha.. maybe give it a cleaning when you remove it? again theres a thread on here somewhere about using lye

i didn't attempt the cutting version but i did buy this CDI and it works great http://www.partsforscooters.com/169-158-Honda-Dio-CDI?sc=34&category=132416

theres a few threads somewhere on here about cutting it just use the search thingy.. they have pics if i remember right..

and im no expert compared to the other guys on here but if youre only doing 26 mph, theres probably several other things keeping your speed down, not just the CDI

Best bet is to buy a Boysen blank, and cut your own. Any dirt bike shop or site carries them. 0.025 is good for low end torque, 0.030 - 0.035 is good for all around, 0.040 is drag bike.

After you cut them use Epoxy to seal the raw edges. A q-tip is fine to apply it, just be SURE to wipe it all off the faces.

dang zombie you sure do know a lot

People 50 / Stray Lines
« on: June 26, 2015, 07:51:12 PM »
back again lol

i had noticed 2 stray hoses/lines near my carb and CVT a while back but never got around to inquiring about them until now

if anyone can tell me what they are and if they're important that would be awesome.. also if anyone knows where they're supposed to be connected to rather than just dangling..

the thicker one i moved in front of the carb just so it could be seen better but it usually rests just behind the carb

When you run the after market air filter, you have to re-jet the carb with larger jets.  The engine is getting more air, so it needs more fuel.  The idle adjustment and air mixture screw on the side of the carb will not be enough.

i figured i would definitely have to upjet due to the exhaust and now that i think about it, it makes sense for the intake as well.
a thread on the forum lead me to these pages

its a 2001 2t with the stock carb im fairly certain, just wanted to double check if you know if these would fit before i buy

haven't really gotten into pulling the carb out yet so that'll be interesting to learn how to do

Oh yeah... Go another gram lighter on the rollers, and you'll get that bottom end quickness back, and keep the top end. Maybe even 2 grams lighter.

I have hundreds of rollers that have maybe 3 minutes of riding on them from experimenting. It's part of the game.

hopefully i'll get around to ordering some new rollers or sliders soon

Yeah but maybe I exaggerated, for example in my case I changed the rollers only one time and found the sweet spot on the first try  :P

Let us know about your results!
okay so i installed the malossi variator, malossi fly clutch(the one with the white springs), the malossi bell that came with it, the white malossi contra spring, malossi torsion controller, new bando belt, and a unrestricted CDI.. gave the rear pulley and torque driver a deep clean as well..

i had also bought a K&N preformance air filter but found that it didn't fit quite as snugly as the OEM box but maybe im just being paranoid idk.. left it off for the OEM box bc after popping it on the scoot wouldn't start very well/run smoothly and i couldn't figure out the right carb mixture and idle screw adjustments to get it perfect.. any thoughts on the filter situation?

as for results of the new parts im extremely pleased.. a little slower take off speed bc of the weights but i gained about 10mph in top speed overall.. went from 37 to 47 so thats pretty sweet. feels like its running a lot smoother as well.

still waiting on the exhaust to ship out.. but in the mean time, any thoughts or recommendations on what i should do next with the scoot???

People 50 / Re: Rear Brake Lever

If it moves like that most likely its damaged from a crash. No adjustment like the freeplay

man thats disappointing to hear

People 50 / Rear Brake Lever
« on: June 21, 2015, 07:31:22 PM »
hey folks i have a question here about the left brake lever.. i know how to adjust the free play of the lever using the nut at the back of the scooter near the rear wheel.. but i cant figure out how to tighten the lever so it doesnt move up and down. right now its extremely loose in being able to move up and down whereas the right brake lever is firm and doesnt move.

can anyone share how to adjust the tightness of this lever??
