Technical | How To / New to Scooter Life -Looking for a Carb
« on: July 31, 2018, 07:02:23 PM »
Well I will make the standard saying of "I'm not sure this is the right location to start this thread" for a new person to a forum. Now that we have that out of the way, I bought my first scooter ever a few weeks ago. (2001 Kymco People 50 with about 800 miles on it) She had been sitting for about a year the owner said, so we got her home and cleaned the carb, put a new plug in, changed the stripped autocock. Then she would run fine for the days I was riding, but it would seem that she just wouldn't start in the mornings. But would start in the afternoon, or even every other morning. This would be why she got her name Phil, finicky Phil.

After some diggin in the forums i decided to try a new battery (the old one may have been the original still) And Viola she started right up that day. And two days later, she started again in the morning when it was kinda cold (with a little bit of throttle love to keep her warm for a few seconds.) However after taking her to work, then to lunch, then to a side gig after work, I tried starting her up after a few hours of sitting and she just wouldn't start up.

So I am going to try cleaning the carb out again this week. But I think I want to try and get a new carb to try. I just have no idea where to look or what to get. The stock ones that I've found are looking like 150 big ones, and I don't really want to drop that kind of dough right now. My buddy says I could probably find a cheaper aftermarket one for 20 or 30 bucks somewhere. I just can't figure out what to look for or how to know if it will work.

So with all of that being said I'm happy to join the Kymco Family, and any info or tips would be greatly appreciated.
