Xciting 500 / After market Backrest Xciting 500
« on: May 10, 2012, 10:21:50 PM »
Good Afternoon all,
I have a 2009 Xciting 500. The standard seat has a small hip adjustable hiprest.  I am 66 yrs old and would like more of a back rest.  This is for the rider not the passenger.  I would be great if it had height adjustments up to about the mid back area.  Has anyone had anything like this done to their Xciting?  I though awhile back I had seen a seat modification that is something like what I am talking about.  I'm sure  whole new seat would have to be installed because there is no real support for a backrest in the existing seat.  I would want tho modification to not eliminate an area for a passenger.  Any thoughs or photos out there?
Thanks, Scooter65

General Discussion / Gas Overflow
« on: January 11, 2012, 02:24:26 AM »
Hello Everyone,
I have a Kymco 2009 Xciting 500 and have been having a problem when filling up at the gas pump.  Have had the scoot for about a year now and have lately been having a gas overflow problems when filling up.  For a long time I had no problem, the pump would shut off when the tank was full.  I usually put about 2.25 gallons in for a fill up.  Then recently when filling up doing nothing different from before, the pump did not shut off and the gas overflowed before I could stop pumping.  I try to get the tank completely full so I can check the mileage.  Of course as you may know the gas bleaches out the nice black center panel below the fillup hole.  Oh by the way I use amoral to restore the nice black color but it only works so so.  Anyone got any ideas on the fillup problem and what to use on the plastic to restore the color?
Thanks, Scooter65

General Discussion / Whoops, when she starts to go over can stop her!
« on: November 26, 2011, 11:51:11 PM »
Made a careless mistake yesterday.  Started up a hill on a narrow road and before I knew it I was at a point of no return. I have an Xciting 500 which of course weighs about 500lbs. Well I stopped and tried to make a slow left to head back down the hill and you quessed it, trying to turn that 500lbs heading down hill didn't work, down she went. Fortunately I was able to jump off so I was't hurt. There I was standing, thinking what a dumb thing I had tried to do. I was pretty far up this little road but there were houses farther up so I wasn't without hope. As I tried to pick my scoot up it just slid a little bit and off course grinding off some of my nice red paint. I though how in the world would I be able to get my bike upright again. Just then I saw a car coming up the road and I thought great but it's probably a women alone. Much to my amazement 4 big strong young guys jumped out and whala the bike was up. I knew there would be some pretty bad scratches and yes there were. Sadly this was the 2nd time my bike had been down.  The 1st was a few months ago when I parked it but didn't check to make sure it was secure. Came out of the store and there she was laying down. Fortunely this time as well there were folks to help me upright her! Like the 1st time I got out my red touch up paint and a red felt pen and did some cosmetic work. Turned out ok considering the severity of the scratches and scrapes. Boy did I feel dumb, but thankfully things did turn out OK!!

General Discussion / Tell me about scooter tires
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:30:55 PM »
To all you scooter experts out there,
Just wondering about scooter tires.  I have a 2009 Xciting 500 with about 5000 miles on it.  Kind of new to 2 wheel motorcycle/scooter, loving it!  The tires on my Xciting are Kenda, original equiptment.  Are these good tires?  Are there tires that are puncture proof?  I'm afraid of blowouts at highway speeds.  About how many miles should scooter tires have before replacement?  Lots of variances I know.  What are the best and safest tires?  Regarding tread design, car tires have lot's of tread, scooter tires very little, what holds/grips the road on a scooter tire?  Any tire experts out there could give me a crash course on tires if you will!  Thanks.

Xciting 500 / Tell me about tires for the xciting 500

Hello all you scooter experts,
Somewhat of a new scooter rider, year and a half, need info on tires.  I have a 2009 Xciting 500 with about 5000 mi on the original Kenda tires.  Are Kenda's good tires?  Tread still looks good to me but at about what milage would you suggest replacing?  Are scooter tires pretty safe from blow outs?  Has anyone had a tire problem at highway speeds?  Unlike car tires which have lots of tread, scooter tires seem to have little actual tread, what holds them to the road if it is not tread?  Since scooters don't have spares what is the best, most safe tires out there.  I am most worried about tires problems at freeway speed.  Are there puncture proof tires? Lot's of question huh!  Still learning about these 2 wheeled vehicles we call scooters or maybe we should call them step thru motorcycles.  Thanks for all your help, this Kymco Forum is great!

General Discussion / Rattling Noise Kymco 500RI
« on: June 21, 2011, 09:36:31 PM »
Need some of you experts out there to give me a diagnosis on my Xciting 500.  I'm mechanically declined so this noise/rattle has me confused.  My 2009 Xciting only has about 4000 miles on it.  Anyway yesterday I took a motorcycle training course and put my bike thru a pretty gruling 4 hours of turning, swirving, breaking, cornering, etc in hot weather.  Probably doesn't have anything to do with it but shortly after I got what I would call a rattling noise which seem like it was coming from the engine housing area.  Actually it sounded like some screws were loose and something was vibrating.  I checked and things looked fine.  The small light over the licsence plate seems a little loose but the screws were tight. Well today as well as yesterday it only makes the noise at about 10 mph and smooths out as I accelerate.  I've only had the bike for a couple of months but I'm almost possitive it is running rougher and vibrating at very slow speeds.  Anyone got any ideas?

Xciting 500 / Rattleling noise on my Xciting 500
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:00:20 PM »
Annyone ever experienced this problem?  I have an Xciting 500 and just started experiencing a strange issue with a rattling noice seemingly coming from the engine housing.  Actually took a motorcycle training course yesterday with lots of starts, stops, breaking, swirving, and cornering.  Doubt that had anything to do with it but it started right after that.  It's a 2009 bike with only about 4,000 miles on it.  THe noise sounds like the plastic housing encasing the engine is loose and rattling.  It only happens a very slow speed, 10mph.  As I speed up it smooths out.  At idle it is smooth and quiet.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'm a pretty new ridder and not very mechanically inclined but I'm sure it didn't have such a rough start a slow speeds when I got the bike a couple of months ago!
Thanks, Scooter65

Xciting 500 / Larger windshield for my Kymco 500 xciting
« on: May 03, 2011, 01:05:09 AM »
Just joined up on the Kymco Forum today so just trying it out.  I live in the So. Cal area and just bought a 2009 500cc xciting with the small smoke colored windshield.  Nice looking but does nothing for wind diversion!  I have seen on line the Givi D293ST but it is 35" tall... looks way too big.  I want to block the wind but don't want the windshield way above eye level.  Any ideas??
