MXU / MXU 700i, anyone with a snow plow?
« on: February 20, 2019, 10:50:15 PM »
I am about to pull the trigger on an MXU 700i that is a leftover 2017 for a pretty good price.  I want to use it to plow snow for a VERY long driveway.  Can anyone recommend a plow setup?  I see a bunch of WARN kits for $400, does anyone have one and does the universal mount seem to work?  I think I will go with a center mount for strength, but would prefer the ease of a front mount, just read of some cracked parts with front mount.  Any suggestions helpful, thanks in advance!

Downtown 300 / White 2011 for sale, MN $2500
« on: September 22, 2014, 01:45:40 PM »
If anyone is looking for a used one in MN, I have 2011 with 2000 miles on it for $2500.  A couple scratches but otherwise good condition. Runs great, just took it on a 200 mile ride down the St Croix.  Selling to get a motorcycle.

Downtown 300 / Techron, just a random observation.
« on: June 06, 2013, 08:00:48 PM »
Bought a Downtown that was a left over last year, I think it is a 2011, don't remember.  Anywho....it has had an intermittent problem.  It would sometimes be really boggy.  It would not kick into that sort of "second gear" the engine does when it gets past about 15 mph then takes off with a larger surge, it would just accelerate weakly.  This would happen periodically and I tried taking off the gas cap to see if there was some vapor lock and reset the throttle setting with the standard procedure.  I used some seafoam in the gas.  But it would still happen on occasion and then seem to go away on its own for no reason only to reappear.

It occurred to me that since this was a leftover it probably sat for a year with gas in the tank, most likely with some Minnesota ethanol and perhaps there was some crud in the fuel system.  I use techron concentrate in my cars with very good results and put in a healthy dose with a full tank of fuel.  Within a very short time it ran like a beast and has displayed more power than its first few miles.  I have not had the bogginess come back since I used it and suspect that the techron did the trick.

I read that this is one of the most aggressive and effective fuel additives money can buy and seem decent results in my car but it was like night and day after a couple days and 20 miles of it in the scooter.  If you have any intermittent problems and suspect any crud in the fuel, give it a try.  It seems to have cleared up a problem in mine that sea foam would not.

Downtown 300 / Official Downtown Accessories Thread?
« on: May 18, 2013, 11:31:39 PM »
I don't know if anyone like the idea but I thought it would be good to have a thread where people post pictures of accessories so when others are thinking of adding windshields, top cases, mirrors, or other things that they could have a pictorial reference of the different brands and what they look like on the scooter.  Maybe we could even include the place we found the best price as well.

Anywho, here is my contribution.  Givi 33 liter Monokey (although monolock version looks identical) topcase with Givi Downtown specific mount:

Downtown 300 / Helmets question for riders with many different bikes.
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:57:03 PM »
I am looking at getting another helmet and doing my research.  I have a Scorpion EXO700 right now and am totally fine with it.  The reviews from owners tend to classify it as a noisy helmet, but I do not notice too much, but in all honesty it is the only helmet I have ever owned.  Another helmet I am looking at, a Nolan Modular 104 is also complained about as a noisy helmet.

So this brings me to the question:  For those of you who have had different helmets and bikes, is the noise problem more of an issue on bikes that do not have a windshield like that on the Downtown?   The noise I notice in my current helmet seems to be no big deal and I'd be fine with a helmet that there are noise complaints about IF the windshield on the Dowtown makes the concern kind of meaningless as opposed to a naked motorcycle.

I have no experience with a windshield-less bike on the freeway and wonder if that is where the noise complaints come from because behind the Downtown's windshield, my "noisy" helmet does not seem to be a big deal at all and I have had the bike to up to 80 plus.

The Nolan helmet seems to get high marks from the SHARP safety rating system, is not too expensive, and offers lots of features but gets some complaints of a little noise.  My other option is the Shoei  Neo-Tec which gets the same rating, is considered quiet, but twice the price.  Is a windshield a HUGE limiting factor in helmet noise?

Many thanks in advance.

Downtown 300 / Pads to improve front brake?
« on: May 23, 2012, 06:47:04 PM »
Has anyone tried any kind of performance pad, if there is such a thing to improve the front braking on a Downtown?  When I practice fast stops I seem to get way more braking from the rear than the front and just wondering if there is a way to beef up the front a little.  It seems lacking compared to the motorcycles I tried.

I don't want the "grab and go over the handlebars" grip, but it seems like there is a lot of room for improvement.

Downtown 300 / Is the gas cap supposed to stick out like that?
« on: May 04, 2012, 07:51:43 PM »
Just picked mine up from the dealer and it had a quarter gallon in it.  I stopped to fill up and took the cap off but did not really look at it before hand, so when I tried to put it back on I had a seriously hard time with it.  I put it back on and the rubber ring presses up against the filler hole, but the rest of the cap is about an inch above that.  Is that right?  It went on fine like the but then the key was stuck and would not come out.  I had to wrestle the cap off, bang it on the ground a couple times and then the key came free.

Went back on the same way and key came out fine but it sure looks weird to me.

Downtown 300 / Headlight modulator for Downtown?

Does anyone know of a source for a Downtown plug and play modulator or have a particular model that was easy to install?

Many thanks.

Downtown 300 / Could be a Dowtown buyer
« on: March 21, 2012, 07:48:06 PM »
Hey gang,

Looking at several scooter and the one I would most like to buy is the Downtown, but on my list it is also the most expensive.  There are several Kymco dealers in my area, I would like to ask did anyone pay below sticker?  The only one dealer I have walked into wants to add $400 for freight and prep onto the cost of a new one and wondering what most of you experience.  This is a dealer in midwest US.

Secondly, one dealer has a new 2011 still in stock.  I have seen other dealers go as low as advertising $1100 of original sticker on a new-old stock 2011 but have no idea what they want to add in hidden fees on top of that.  I don't even need to go that low, but if new price is $5599, does $4800 on new old stock seem outrageous?

Any advice helpful.  This will be a toy that will get maybe 500 miles a year tops so that is why my reluctance to pay top dollar even though a great product.

Thanks for any advice.

I am looking at a new Yager, this is from a large local scooter dealer who lists the price of the scooter at full retail price of $3500.  On the price tag there is an asterisk that lists the "out the door price" much higher.  It includes TTL and has a $300 charge for freight to get the scooter from the manufacturer much like the delivery charge on a new auto.

Is this typical of your experience with your local scooter dealer and Kymco or is this dealer profit padding or a negotiating ploy?

Thanks for your help in advance.

John
