I am 150kg and my wife is 50kg and our 500i runs like a baby - we even fill the box with stuff - i believe it's perfect!!!

Jan,

Am I understanding you correctly? You are putting a 200 kg (440 lb) load, plus cargo on the X500?

How is the mileage, and do you have the suspension high?

I'm asking because I'm 118kg, and I'd like to throw someone on the back every now and then.

Can anyone else chime in with what loads you are putting on the X500?

I've got 1118 miles on the scoot now. Since 700 miles, I've averaged 41.35 mpg in town, mostly 25 - 45 and many stops. I did a 98 mile trip yesterday, highway-ish (45-60, few stops) and got 49.52 mpg. The mpg picture looks much better than when I first got the scoot, but I was hoping for a little more.  Still, 40+ mpg city isn't too shabby :-)

I am now up to date on www.fuelly.com, too.

Just a quick browse, and I didn't see the specs. but I think 2up on any 500cc is not a lot of fun. Highway cruising 2up needs a bigger bike. Around the back roads ...OK

My first bike was a 82-83(?)  Kawasaki 440 LTD. I only took one long-ish trip on it 2 up. Started in Inverness, Fl, up through Ocala, Silver Springs, over to I-95 and down to Cocoa to watch a shuttle launch. Not a problem :-)

Xciting 500 / Re: Where can I get side cases?
« on: May 01, 2010, 06:52:09 PM »
I have emailed Kymco Germany asking them about their side case mounting hardware for the Xciting 500. Hopefully it will properly attach to a US sold x500.  If it does, I can get the GIVI E21 cases. WooHoo :-)

I also bought the passenger backrest shown on the KymcoUSA site. For some reason, it didn't come with he universal top case mounting plate shown in the picture. My dealer, Super Scooterstore of America, are checking out why. BTW, the didn't charge for installing the backrest because it was the first they installed at that shop, and it was worth it to them to learn. Ya gotta love those guys. They are all over Florida, and in Georgia.

My X500 has the standard "sporty" windscreen. Does anyone know if the standard clear windscreen from 2-ish years ago will bolt on?

I want something a little taller, but not as tall as the Givi.

General Discussion / Re: Ethanol/Methanol?

After talking with Kymco I found out the scooter warranty isn't void when using fuels with Ethanol/Methanol, any damage caused by it wont be covered.
Are you saying that Kymco does or doesn't cover damage caused by methanol/ethanol.

Does Sea Foam have any effect on mileage?

Congrats on the new X500. Mine is just a couple of months old.

My mirrors are on the handle bars. They seem to give me a good rear view.

You won't have a problem finding top cases, but the only side case moutung hardware I've found is from Kymco Germany. There is a "hard case" thread here  in the forum. That's mine. One ts1 found the URL.
http://www.kymco.de/fileadmin/user_upload/PDF/zubehoer/KYMCO_ZUBEHOER-ZWEIRAD_0902.pdf. There's a lot of choice in soft cases.

Both Piaggio and Kymco have 250's with 16" wheels. I wish they would put 16s on the X500.

As for the windshield, I'm going to ask around to see if the "old" clear stock windshield will bolt up to our model of X500. I think it is taller than our "sport" windshield, and might not have the problem with the handlebar mirrors.

I agree.. the seat is HARD. But the material dries in minutes after a rain. Still, I'll have to look into redoing my seat, too.

I disagree with Zombie's "right at home w/ the larger "cruisers" once it is properly dressed up". I don't think it needs much at all to be "right at home" :-)

And, BTW, i weigh in at 255... ah, well.

Happy scootin'

Just saw a pic of your scoot, veeerrry nice :)

Thanks. I originally wanted a black one, then i thought I'd "settle" for white. Then I got such a deal... $800 off, and no freight/set up fee. Ya just gotta love those red scoots :-)

Got the X500 back. Rode it to dinner, then rode it for an hour. It was the first time in almost 26 years I did 60 mph on a 2 wheeler in the dark for more than 2-3 minutes. I was fairly nervous at times. I remember now why I don't like crossing draw bridges in the dark. The ride went well, though.

The scoot sounds ... deeper, and I think it is idling a couple of hundred  RPMs less.

Time to start budgeting for accessories.... diamond plate foot rests, backrest with hand rail and plate for top box, top box, soft cases. Hopefully nitrogen shocks will increase the weight carrying capacity and won't cost too much.

... hmmmm... a blue and a white nitrogen shock on a red scoot...
