Agility 50 / Re: air filter/better airflow.

I don't think cutting vents in your filter cover will help much and unless you are a master plastic cutter, it will probably not look too hot.
The cover keeps water off the filter.  The after market "cones" are out in the open and may not like getting wet.
If you use the bike for commuting, I would keep the cover and stock filter.
Otherwise, save the stock bits for resale and install the unobstructed filter.

Technical | How To / Belt Size for 2009 Super 8 150?
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:26:01 PM »
Anybody replace the belt on their Super 8 150?
I can't find the specs on the belt size anywhere, which is frustrating.
I have never had a bike that was so hard to find correct parts for.
It's a GY6 engine.  No it isn't.  Yes it is.  Is it, or isn't it?  It says Kymco GY6 on the engine case.
What about a shop manual?  Here's one, oops that is for the 50 cc.  Seriously.
I can't even find a direct line to Kymco parts that is of any use for the Super 8.

Anyway, bitching, Grrrr

Please let me know if you can spot the belt size for me.

Cheers

If it starts easy, runs good, goes good, stops good and looks good, you are probably ok with that year bike.
Did they have the initial check-up done?
I don't think you will have any trouble otherwise.
However, no bike is perfect and you will learn what needs fine tuning.
The battery is an issue and reminds me to go ahead and get a new one for my 09!

Super 8 150 / Re: strange noises

I am always alert to funny noises in bikes or cars.
Wash your bike once a week as an excuse to look for loose stuff.

Keep in mind how your Super 8 gets going.
If you spin the engine quickly, the clutch is going to move quickly as well.
If you spin it slowly, the weights in the clutch don't move as quickly and you will feel the thing engaging.
Also, the stock clutch is a piece of crap.  It looks like they glued three tiny tabs of butter on to the thing.  Taking the clutch apart and getting the glaze off and generally cleaning the belt and clutch will help.
My Super 8 is the same.  Sometimes I miss a motorcycle clutch, but not in city traffic.
Just go like hell all the time and you will be fine!

I have not been pulled over for driving without a motorcycle license.  That is because I have a license.
Why the need to cheat the system?  Are you weighing the cost of getting a license vs. getting a ticket for riding without a license?
Sign up for a motorcycle safety course and learn the proper way to handle a bike.
Most courses will take care of the motorcycle riding test and written test too.
They are a fun way to spend a weekend.
Be safe, be legal.

The variator and clutch need a special tool to remove.  As I mentioned, I used an impact wrench and it did the job.
Glad you found a reasonable solution.

General Discussion / Re: 250 for 2 up riding, which one?

We have all had those spooky moments when you realized you could have been road kill.
Either you learn to embrace those moments or you quit.
If you had a friend talk you into riding so you have someone to ride with, it won't take much to scare them off.
It is in your blood or it isn't.

You should be fine.  Just set the preload on the shocks to max!  Your dealer can help you set it properly.
Too bad on the stunts though.  I would pay money to see a 340 lb dude pop a wheely on a Super 8.
Good luck.

General Discussion / Re: help help super 9
« on: May 03, 2011, 03:34:02 PM »
hello im new here i have a problem with my super 9 ive been out on it today and got home and found that it wanted to continue on with out high revs so i stalled the engine and removed the engine casing i bought a bgm variator kit from scooter center in germany and found the torque spring they sent is not closing or has snapped and will not close has any one any information

Sorry my friend, but I'm not getting something in translation.
Are you saying that you think the torque spring in the bgm variator is defective?
Can you see that it has snapped?
If so, is there a warranty on the part?

Removing the carburetor can be intimidating, but don't let that stop you.
Take a photo of the carb in place before you remove anything.  Mark the tubes with tape and label them A, B, C, etc.
Do the same for any electrical connections.  I find the throttle cable to be the biggest pain.
Take the SOB fully out and give it a good cleaning while you are at it.
You will hate trying to work with it in place.
Your back and hands will thank you...

Have you removed the clutch yet?  You will need an impact wrench or a special clutch tool to get the nut off.
You will not get the nut off without some kind of special or improvised (I tried improvising, not good) tool so BEWARE.
I had some slipping and shuddering with my Super 8.  I cleaned the clutch pads and the bell surfaces to remove any glazing.  It virtually stopped the slipping.
However, after seeing what a piece of crap the stock clutch is, I am tempted to replace it with a performance piece like the one below:

With that said, I think you should try cleaning your clutch and checking your belt before purchasing a new clutch.

Cheers

Kevin,

I own a Super as well and have had trouble finding certain parts.
I don't have many answers for the performance mods that you are thinking of.
Personally, I just want to keep the scooter running in stock shape so it is good for resale.
I did add some foam to the seat as that was my biggest complaint.  That cost me $5 and an hour of my time.
I think the best investment would be on the drive train (kevlar belt and heavy duty clutch and or variator).
The best performance gains seem to come in this area.
I would also recommend better tires.
If I was going to mess with the engine, I would probably start with a jet kit and a new exhaust.
However, these motors are effectively disposable (did you notice there is no oil filter?) and are not designed for high performance.  If you keep them clean, they should serve you well for a while.  If you beat on them or try creative modifications, you may kill it.
I think that the lights go dim on idle because of the way the power is generated and don't think it is an issue.  It may be a power saving design.
Good luck with your tinkering!

Super 8 150 / Re: valve clearance
« on: April 11, 2011, 10:36:34 PM »
Does it run well the way that you have it?
Did it make any difference in how it runs after you adjusted the clearance?
It sounds like you are within tolerance with either.

Look back and give them a hand wave indicating they need to back off.
If this does not work, pull over and let them go by.
You will not win a battle with a car or truck.  Do not give them the finger, it isn't worth the trouble.
Do not add oil gun, smoke maker or spike strip launcher to the back of your scoot.  As fun as this sounds, it will likely get you jailed or killed.
