Agility 50 / Re: belt too long?!?!!?
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:04:42 AM »
bmcafee, as you described it, the belt is 100% too long or streched. I had some heavy vibratios coming through the floor on top speed with 748 belt but on oem variator and torque spring.  it's smooth on malossi kit.
clunking against cvt cover and sticking when braking to stop/erratic and slow start suggest too long or not enough flexible belt.

sidesloth is right. don't write off bando cause it's oem and as I could see they're making quality rubber.

I had idea to try a few more belts and put some old belt from my brothers Sym Jet euro x 50 2T. it's 737x18 (correct measurements) but had worn to 16.5 mm in width(18 mm new). worked fine but had spots in acceleration and this unpleasant fealing at top speed that something is holding me back.
so, I decided to buy the same new one made by Bando for 25$. Installed stock variator and clutch spring and I was very happy with result. Constant acceleration and very decent max speed (80 km/h) with 5.7 gr rollers.works fine on malossi kit too.

also, somewhere I suggested Vicma/Dynaflex 740! It's rubbish! a friend of mine bought it and I instaled it on his ag 50.
at 5.500 km on this belt it was almost desintegraded and making some soft grinding/squeaking noise. Performance was ok but made some violet heat marks on the front movable pulley.

and try blowing compressed air through all carb passages . I stripped my carb completely and washed base in warm water and soap :-) and then used air compressor and it worked much better after this.

also I readjusted idle mixture srew form 2 1/2 to 2 turns and seems it's better like that for hot weather(ring at the top of threads where electrode is welded too had very black color with some soot?, pointing me idle mixture was rich and now it's fine.

I have simmilar problem. When engine warms up, scooter stals and then dies. unable to start it again for 10 mins.
cleaned and adjusted carb, checked spark plug and inspected vacuum lines. all seems ok, but it happens on a very hot days(40+ degrees celsius)
and I think it's overheating and cutting itself off to prevent damage.no problem driving on evening when temperature drops.

It started just after I switched to motul scooter expert 10W 40(I found oil grade-temperature diagram in user manual suggesting 15W 50 grade on 40+ temperatures and truth is I had no the problems with this grade no matter what temperature is)
Also I installed ngk iridium plug CR7HIX(far beyond my expectations considering high price compared to CR7HSA), but I also tryed original champion and cr7hsa and problem continued.

Switched back to 15W 50 and turning engine off on traffic lights and I had no more problems like this.

Hope this helps!

sealing battery cover with quality silicone makes more sence than drilling plastic underneath.

blue, you're right. aftermarket belts have different dimensions than stock and as I could see, everything from 729 - 748 works. my stock was 729 but too short and now I run 748 and it's not touching starter bendix neither var. casing and I got significant speed increase.  Important thing with belts is quality. softer belts have more grip but streching and short lasting. harder ones could be rough on your variator like streido said somewhere. and every one needs right var. set up to perform as it should. For my 748 right set up was provided with malossi multivar kit(white torque spring and 5.5 g rolls). And one tip(I guess most of you know that), after new belt installation, drive your scoot slowly for the first 4-6 miles and let it wear in properly. This way it's gonnal last longer and provide propper performance. If you drive too fast, the belt is going to tear itself more than it should. Above written is from my own experience  ;D

you could get a higher top speed with 743 belt but it requires variator calibration(roller weights/clutch spring).
it could give you lower performance on wrong set up, but if tuned fine gives you up to 5 mph better top.
Remember how good your scoot did uphill when variator was restricted.

was curious and did first three steps with 84 jet(86 and 85 were too rich), 38 slow jet, new air filter and replaced intake manifold gasket to one with bigger diameter. Solved problem with dificult starting when warm (I think slow jet was the problem ), and generaly works fine at 300 m above sea level. Definitely got some power improvement.

my french is not so good but I understood some:

base de restriction with 85 jet instalation

1. : remove tube going from underneath the frame into the air box
2. : cut rubber ring that's in the tube between box and carb at the curve but be careful not to cut or damage through the main rubber tube. use razor blade
3. install 85 jet to balance mixture

thats about it for 50 cc but there is two more steps for 80cc

4. cut sufficient tube under 45 ° inside the air box
5. wide the air hole in the box by 2 or 4 mm
6. not necessary but you can remove protruding small tube thet is between box and carb and wrap it around with duct tape.

usually 95 jet in 80cc

someone tryed that? any results?

sidthesloth, is it going all the way up on the front pulley?
maybe try 732 x 18.5
or 740/743 x 18

Thanx

if your belt is listed as 729x18x30 it's 729 long, 18 wide, 30 angle and about 8-9 mm deep. 2 deg angle difference makes no issue when belt wear in and sits into pulleys

and a 1-2 mm thinner belt makes a difference. believe me  :)

now one maybe stupid question: rollers are not the same on both sides. one side seems a little bit longer and 45 degree and other one is in 'L' profile at 90 deg.  Now, what side to place against variator rotation? I tryed either way and noticed no diference. Is there are any rule for roll placing?

streido, 28 or 30mm is a way too wide for agility. 18mm is ag width. no wonder the belt is making your variator acting like you described.
a friend of mine bought vicma/dynaflex belt for his agility and I installed it so it's the 100% sure fit. got 5.000 km with no problems :

if you buy it, make sure product code CT48
