Grandvista 250 / Re: 18,000 mile CVT belt
« on: August 09, 2014, 06:40:05 PM »
Sorry for the stupid question, but people almost always state the miles/kilometers on a belt. But no one is considering age. Why? I guess these contain some kind of rubber or other organic material that ages unrelated to the m/km on the scoot. (No UV reaches it but it gets heated...) It may be that a belt has only 8000 miles on it but maybe 4-5 years old... Maybe I'm wrong...

Looks fantastic in blue! But the white is the most beautiful to me...

I also get around 62MPG on my dt300i. That is mostly two up city with premium unleaded fuel.
Wonder if it will change for the better when I switch to iridium plug. Have to check the air filter as well...

Excuse me for resurrecting such an old thread but I'd like to add my experience as well. I've got the maxxis front tyre and it behaves just as you described. Wants to follow all cracks and thicker road paint as well. I've over 5000 miles on them and their profile isn't the best either. What is the minimum recommended thread depth, when to change? Under 2mm perhaps?

I bought a car phone holder and made my own adapter to stick it onto. since it would not stick to the windshield. it is attached to the bike using Velcro. no drilling gluing needed and it softens vibrations as well. not the most beautiful thing, but it works good. photos attached.

yes. try with another battery. preferably new one or one you're sure is in good condition and see what happens. let us know how things turn out!

thank you all for your replies. the metzeller is a good tyre I'm sure.
on the other hand I've read good things about the Dunlop scootsmart. a Croatian forum test says it's good in rain as well.... interesting that no one said anything about it here yet...

EDIT:
found a video about the Dunlop roadsmart predecessor of scootsmart. take a look.

if you over depleted your batt, you have done irreversible damage to it. (irreversible chemical reaction) you can recharge it. it will pick up some charge and right off the charger it will provide enough juice to start the engine fooling you into believing it's OK, but it's probably dead. it lost most of its capacity and self discharge became high. will self discharge at a high rate, overnight for example. any lead acid battery that can only hold 70% or less of its rated capacity can be considered a dead lead acid battery as they say.

while I was waiting for my tires to arrive, ( mail order )   I wore the tires down to the thread,  so I did not ride in the rain, for the last few days,.  they went from tread 1/16 " to thread in 100 km.s

What tyres were you using and what new ones have you ordered?

Thank you all for the replies. I understand this will have to be a personal choice I just want to hear others' opinions first. Tyre prices around here aren't so far away from each other. All the tyres I mentioned above are between 45 and 55 pounds. No big difference. The Heidenaus aren't the most expensive either.

I took some photos of the front tyre and attached them to the first post so you can check them out. Should I be worried about the profile and/or wear it shows?

Downtown 300 / New tyre, but which one?!
« on: July 26, 2014, 03:02:03 PM »
I spent the last 4+ hours with reading. Mainly this forum about what tyres to buy for my ride, but I still can't feel the lightbulb above my head so to speak :)
I also did some preliminary research on what types of tyres I can get around here and for what price. Sunny UK.

Some thoughts on my current tyres:

The front tyre: I'm a bit worried about the state my front maxxis tyre (probably the factory original right?). Too many tiny-miny holes like cuts from erosion (road dirt) I guess and some cupping as well. And I would say the depth of the grooves is at it's limit. I'll add some photos later.

The rear: is a Viper Stryke (Avon?!) which is visually (for my layman eyes) in better condition than the front tyre. However on wet asphalt (understand heavy reain) I noticed loss of grip in cornering at speeds I would not consider too high. But maybe I'm wrong. I felt the rear wanting to get loose in round-abouts a few times. I also felt loosing grip at hard acceleration as well.

When I run onto thicker road paint sometimes the scoot becomes squirrely. No idea whether front or rear tyre causes this or perhaps the combination of the two tyres?!

Potential new tyres: (MAIN CITERIA: MUST HAVE GOOD GRIP in RAIN, and colder weather as well, snow not important)
I can buy the following around here:
The order in this list is random:
Heidenau K66 - I like these most but don't really know the reason... :)
Michelin City Grip
Michelin City Grip Winter
Michelin Power Pure SC
Metzeler Feelfree
Metzeler Feelfree Wintec
Pirelli Diablo
Dunlop Scootsmart - haven't got any RAIN info on these...

I would LOVE to know what others who regularly ride in rain are using on their DT300i?! And please comment on the tyres listed above.
Thank you in advance!
