Busses here in Staffordshire remain pretty empty too. I'm not sure how that will hold up as the weather turns...

General Discussion / Re: I'd like to support local auto dealer....

My brother took his newish car (a Volvo I think) to Autozone to have the battery checked: the kid removed the battery and when he reinstalled it the alarm wouldn't shut off, the radio was inoperative and the car had to be towed to the dealer.

I just hope my '89 Camry four banger lasts as long as me...no airbag to smash my face, no alarm, easy access to battery, plugs and oil filter. What with the computerized new cars and "smart" phones I feel very dumb indeed. But if you have a Model A Ford that needs the brakes adjusted I'm your man!

I'm still driving my other half's 2001 Toyota and it's on that sweet spot where there's a little electronics (I am a fan of airbags) but not too much. It's knocking like hell but shows no sign of dying yet, or none more than it did 2 years ago.

Klav, I've owned a few Kwacks (mainly sports 750's & 900's) and found them as reliable as Hondas & Yamahas, but more importantly to me, they have a certain something Hondas don't have... Soul?  Hard to put your finger on it.

That's so true

In Europe I liked to go to the mid-winter Elephant rally--even that rally established in the '50's by Klacks and others was ride in only, but in the last years I saw people drive in, change into bike clothes in the woods and tried to fit in.  Best European Rally for me---Stella Alpina, which included ride up the mountain in snow/mud/rocks/dust=great fun.

Doing the Elefant is something of a dream for me, as an ancestral German. I need to do it in the next couple of years.

You'll be pleased to know they've hugely cracked down on people driving in - it's pretty much impossible to do that now unless you somehow park up 30 miles away and make the switch.

I know this may sound foolish but on the BMW'S I wear a full face helmet so the wind isn't a big issue . On the Kymco's I wear a 3/4 helmet and appreciate the windscreens especially on long trips.

I forget that there's any type of helmet apart from full face!

Never really struggled with women driving on long or short journeys.

I'm a crap driver myself so most people seem pretty good to me.

Are Lexmoto just a marketing name then? If so, I take it the engines & running gear are Chinese?

Yes. They are mostly selling stuff from Senke, Tianda (closely related to Yamaha's Jianshe), Longjia and Znen nowadays.

They have the models made semi-bespoke for them, but it's badge engineering to a large extent.

General Discussion / Re: I guess the majority of us ride motorcycles

Think that applies EU-wide?  Certainly looks familiar to UK rules. Gone are the days when you could ride your 50cc ‘ped on a car licence!

So there's a break - I think those who passed their car test before 2001 have moped entitlement. Anybody after 2001 needs to take a CBT to "activate" their category P for moped (under 30mph) on their car license.

I believe Lifan is somewhere high up on the scooter sales. I know they sell a lot of motorcycles.

Lifan are highly involved with motorcycles, particularly in Africa, but no longer make a huge amount of scooters and have likely been surpassed by Znen (Zhongneng).

Lexmoto don't "make" any scooters :)

If it's not Honda, Piaggio, Suzuki and Yamaha I'd be very surprised!

To be honest it depends one what kind of riding I'm going. For me now, day to day, I feel more "directly" linked to the road when I don't have a screen.

When I was riding for a living, I had a beast of a screen to keep me a bit drier and a bit warmer.

General Discussion / Re: All Weather Tyres

Right! Which is why I am getting rid of the original front Shin something tire which is barely worn at 20,000k and has the grip of high density polyethylene.

Cheng Shins? Also known as CST (Cheng Shin Tyres?) also known as... the budget brand for Maxxis :O

I have never really understood the hatred for Maxxis on this forum. I've never had a bad tyre from them. I do wonder if we get different ones to the states. My old bike racer friend switched to them permanently from Pirellis, he liked them that much.

I'm from Cornwall in the UK. If two cars fit, they go through. Kissing wing mirrors is acceptable. If two won't go, you both slam on the brakes and then one of you reverses at an irresponsible speed until there's enough space. There aren't many ditches down in that part of the country so you can get as close to the hedge as your paintwork can tolerate :)

Kymco News / Re: 15 yrs ago, when the VENOX arrived in the USA

The earliest Kymco we got here was the Stryker, I think. Pushrod engined semi-enduro thing

When you say you drilled the vacuum line, what do you mean? I find that a little worrying

Combined braking systems suck for the skilled rider (my experience, 2 new Honda Silverwing 600's and over 90,000 miles, and one new Reflex)   I like to use the rear as balancing aide!!

For a change, I do agree with you. There are things you can do with separated brakes that you can't do with combined.

Nothing wrong with a City Grip or a Street Pilot. All good tyres and relatively cheap.

Just put fitted 4 Vee Rubbers in the last week... much better than they should be for the price, but still decidedly budget.

I really didn't like the Kendas, Neil - I remember changing them out for another pair before they were really all that worn on my Kymco, and I'm Yorkshire levels of tight when it comes to getting my money's worth out of tyres! I used to get through a back tyre every 6 months when I was riding for work, as well as a set of pads. It was the start, stop, start, stop that killed them.
